The Tesla Model X
The Tesla Model X is on the way, and though the electric car company hasn’t “officially” released any information yet, a huge amount of news just dropped courtesy of the Tesla website. It’s going to get 240 miles on a charge, hit 60 MPH in 3.2 seconds, and come with those sweet, sweet doors.
The news comes to us from InsideEVs.com, and was obtained when Tesla invited early “Signature” reservation holders to start configuring their cars. A lot of the information hadn’t been released yet, so we’re hearing much of this for the very first time. And though Tesla hasn’t sent out an official confirmation of the info themselves, they did confirm to us that all of it was spot-on.
Tesla estimates the price of a base Model X to cost about $25,000 less, but even then, you’re starting at over $100,000. But for the earliest edition available, the “Signature” series, it’ll set you back $132,000, which is just the base price of the launch edition.
And sadly, it will only get you up to highway speeds in 3.8 seconds, which is just barely Ferrari F40 territory. If you want to get it up to true Ludicrous Mode, with its requisite acceleration of 3.2 seconds to 60 MPH, it’ll cost you another $10,000.
Throw in a couple of options, like the tow package, and you’ll get it up to $144,000. For comparison, a BMW X5M starts around $98,900, and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo will set you back $114,700 to start. Both are a bit cheaper, but neither comes with a stonking 762 horsepower.
While the outside looks much like the original Model X concept we saw a while back with just a bit more chub, the interior is very Tesla Model S-ish. Which is odd, considering that the car itself was delayed over what company CEO Elon Musk said was the back seat.
Musk called the seats a “sculptural work of art” at the time, but they kinda just look like some seats to me. It also may have just been a supplier issue, but who knows?
But this is the future, when it comes to those who want to do some mild well-heeled suburban soft-roading. Welcome it.

Love to see what Telsa is doing, but you have to question the prices of their products. No doubt they are going after the higher end of the car market, but how is that supposed to get the rest of us peons into an electric car?? LOL. Wasn't a cheaper model in the works?

With rear doors like that I have always thought that if it is raining, a lot of water will be let it. Since I haven't had access to a Delorean or Gull Wing Mercedes I can't say.
I am sure some overpaid yuppies here in Obamaville will have them soon.

It looks bad IMO. The back looks horrible! Like a Prius without bumpers! I really do hate SUVs that have no defined rear bumpers.
Those doors cannot be good in a tight parking space. At least with regular doors, you can open it slightly and squeeze out...with THESE doors, you have to crawl out below the doors??!!
No doubt 3.2 seconds is damn impressive...but I rather get the Porsche Panamera or something along that line.
But, isn't Tesla losing butt loads of money?? If so, then how long will they be in business...or how long will it take to grow their service centers?

Not sure how I feel about the design either...
As for them hemoraging money, it's mostly all subsidy money from the government anyways. Whatever losses they are incurring at the moment Elon Musk isn't worried. He's busy attacking the other end of the EV problem and encouraging/building the infrastructure side to spur the market towards EVs. I'll give the guy credit, he's got this planned out very well.

Looks like Prius's big brother that we never saw.
personally, if I was going to invest in a Tesla, I'd get a Model S.

We have a Model S as a company car and it is absolutely impressive in nearly every way.
@ BlackWorksInc
is correct about the subsidy capital and the focus on infrastructure improvements - Musk is well aware of what he's doing. This market will explode once the lower end model becomes available and a larger percentage of the population can afford them. The infrastructure needs to be in place so mass adoption of the technology can occur.

You still can't take it offroad..... so, it is just a "mini-van".....

It is NOT the car that those owners will drive when it rains..... they would either hide at home, or have their drivers drove them in town cars....

Looks like the product of a drunken orgy between a DeLorean, a Prius, and a Chrysler 200... the DeLorean brought too much coke to the party.
LOL... gullwing doors. Do all modern gullwing cars need explosive bolts in their doors, or just the 2-doors? With Tesla's superb QC I'd be afraid in these things detonating for no good reason in the Sprouts parking lot
Oh, well... I'm sure some nerd doctor will buy one and I can mock it in the parking lot.
