4Runner and the Environment (Global Warming)...your thoughts?

Well, flatspin, only those who care about the future of the human race and the future of their own families care about global warming and other environmental issues. I'm guessing you aren't close to having a family, and don't have the same perspective as one who is... or you are just selfish and don't care too much about the wellbeing of others, living or in the future. It takes a bit of compassion and a bit of forsight to care about the environment.

its really to late to do anythang... there is no possible way that u can get everyone or atleast a nice majority everyone in the world that drives to help stop globalwarming.... The damage has been done...

How do you know it's too late. You know something we don't?

Humans are stubborn by nature. People, generally, are not going to change the way they live, i.e. how much they consume or how much waste they produce, unless they are forced to. Most people don't see the problem as a big one, and don't seem to notice. Others, like me, see the problem but don't see a real way to do anything about it. Yeah sure, I could ride my bike to work or write letters to my congressman or protest or hand pamphlets out to my freinds, but come on... who would want to ride their bike to work in this heat? :p What congressman reads a single letter from some guy about environmental issues and says, "hey, he's right. I'm going to write a bill." In my mind, any impact I try to create would be too small to make a feasible difference in the world. It's a bad way to think, I know. I think I can make a difference in my family, my workplace, my community, but only a few people get to the point where they affect the world. So I'll just keep driving my SUV to work every day.

If you believe that a Hybrid will solve Global Warming

Heard this on CNN and copied from the transcript page.

But here`s the definitive global warming statistic that comes from the July 3rd issue of "Forbes" magazine that you got to remember to be able to tell your friends:
"China burned 1.9 billion metric tons of coal in 2004.
By 2020, predicts the China Coal Industry Development Research Center, it will burn 2.9 billion tons a year.

That increment alone will send as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as three billion Ford Expeditions, each driven 15,000 miles a year."

Let me restate that, just in case you missed it. Just the increase of one country`s burning of one fuel emits as much CO-2 as three billion Ford Expeditions. What does that tell you? That despite our good intentions, our cute little hybrids aren`t really going to make that much difference in the big picture.

Not for nothing but shouldn't this subject be in a different forum, like Off Topic?

Good point. Well, i will merge it with the other "Global Warming" thread.

Yes, riding a motorcycle is suicide. You intend to remove yourself from the gene pool and reduce polution. It definitely counts.

It's not like I want to live forever... :headslap:

You can die crossing the street or eating fried chicken, I'm at least enjoying the journey

Hmmm, I have a theory. All the BS in this thread is causing an increase in methane gas. Accelerating the green house effect and causing global warming. :satan:
