My understanding was that the turbos are made by the same company that makes BMW and Audi's turbos.
I always assumed EcoBoost was a marketing term, no more than Synergy Drive.
Aside from the fact that some people may assume EcoBoost line of cars is a lot more unique than they really are, I don't see whats wrong with the technology.
In fact a 6 speed, Ecoboost 2016 Mustang is looking pretty good right now. I am quite skeptical though on whether or not it will need major work after 100K miles.
If that's true... I'd be even more worried because those brands have issues with turbo failures...
On what part? I didn't save receipts so I'm only going off what the display told me. I reset everything when I pulled out of the driveway and looked at it again when we pulled back in it.
The governor on the 15 is set to 110, the speedometer is spot on when I did 6 runs at Bonneville.
Also bare in mind the 15s screws are 750lbs lighter than the 14's. Obviously it's not possible to maintain 95 the entirety of the trip. We dealt with traffic and cities where that speed simply wasn't possible. From 20miles outside SLC till pretty much the Nevada border the cruise was set to 110. Once we entered Nevada we varied between 90-95 based on traffic. I'd say we spent around 4000 miles of the trip at around 95.
Coming back was much more difficult than going as we took i70 through Colorado. The grades hit the fuel milage pretty hard and we were only able to maintain an average of 80, but eastern Colorado, the entirety of Kansas and Missouri and southern Illinois brought the fuel back in line.
Like I said, you'll have to take my word for it, but when I pulled in the driveway the computer said 18.9mpg
Well, I do know the 5.0 seems to consistently get better mpg than the EB. The 5.0 trucks are also a little lighter and the 15's even lighter. With the tools, straps, ER kit, me, fuel, and a few mods my EB weighed in at 6300 lbs. With that being said, I'll take your word.
You didn't happen to find what gear ratio your rental 5.0 had did you?

The trucks get Borg Warner turbos and the taurus, flex, and explorer all get Garrett turbos. Actually, the truck and transverse mount engines have a lot more differences than that, almost completely different engines.

6 runs at Bonneville sounds interesting, tell us about that.

I agree with this^^
I'd like to hear about it as well.
I think if had a 3.21 rear end, not 100% though. The passes were fun. The salt was a little soft but the truck pulled hard and we had fun. If it wasn't for the speed governor it would have kept pulling and pulling. After run 6 it was smelling pretty hot, it was working hard to get to that speed in the soft salt.
I'm sure the transmission temp gauge is just a dummy gauge but it never moved. The electric fans throw a ton of air. Was really impressed with the truck overall. I wouldn't be afraid to buy one. Hopefully Toyota puts a diesel in the tundra soon and I won't need to

Ah, those tall gears would explain why you were able to pull off impressive mpg at send me to jail speeds. How did off the line pull feel?
I've always wanted to check out the salt flats. Need to go someday.

I also hope Toyota puts a diesel in the Tundra.
It's a pretty quick truck, my first drive back in my 4Runner was super disappointing. The 5.0 is s fun engine. I'm not certain as I don't know the specifics off the top of my head, but I think that f150 is lighter than my 4runner by a decent margin.
It's impressive. I'd like to see a side by side drag against a equally equipped GM truck.

I'd suggest doing so soon. It was rained out last year, and there have been no events this year, due to a lack of sufficient salt to create even one course.
Unless something changes and soon, like the State and BLM shut down or severely curtail the mining operations that have been depleting the salt for decades, the Salt Flats could be a historical foot note.
I've been racing and helping and/or supporting other competitors there for about 20 years. The poor condition of the Salt is unprecedented in my relatively short experience there, and more so according to those that have been racing there for 50+ years.
it had the sterling 9.75 semi-float, i don't think you can get an F150 with an 8.8 rear end anymore (could be wrong)
i guess it was 3.31 then. I'm pretty sure if you select the Fx4 with the locking rear diff it automatically forces you to 3.55, and this was just a open rear (no LSD) 4x4

I said it averaged that over the 6000 mile trip if you go back and read what I wrote. It was getting between 12-14 depending on the grade at 14k. When I had the cruise control set at 110 going through Utah if still managed 15mpg.
And like I said, I did read your story and I still am in disbelief of the figures you are saying you obtained on that "epic" of a trip.
