In this thread, we learn that over a 100 years later, Ford is still duping consumers into buying it's hot garbage.

For the record, not all turbos, and the motors they're attached to, are unreliable. I sold my Golf TDI with 353k miles on the original turbo.

I guess there's a market for that... or Ford knows that the majority of their customers aren't using their trucks and SUVs for anything more.

I hate the added complexity of turbos and am unsure if they REALLY are compatible with the swill that passes for gas in the Midwest--so I don't know what their longevity will be.

My preference is displacement and peak hp and torque below 2000 RPM but Obama wants to take that away from me.

I'm confused, did I need spell it like that exactly? I didn't capitalize both words as though I were using a pronoun, I capitalized the G in Global as it was the start to my sentence. Try reading it this way "Global warming is a sad, but inevitable cost of burning the amount of fossil fuels that this planet does." Does that make more sense? And, yes, I realize that global warming = climate change, when referenced in discussion.

I think his quotations were to refer to global warming as a joke or a fallacy that's been cooked up by our nations leaders and environmentalists.

No I'm not stirring the pot. Just trying to elaborate on the meaning of his post.

What new EcoBoost thing? Oh, that’s right. That brilliant new marketing scheme from Ford.

Yeah, but my wife's fusion Ecoboost hauls ass at 26-28 miles a gallon, ( I am talking driving 90 for 4 hours), and stupid chicks dig it because they think I am environmentally friendly...as a buddy says, its sleeper, and chicks think I am green...

My only problem with my wife's, is I have to constantly check to see how fast I am going because it feels the same at 70 as it does at 110 on long desert stretches...

I hope it holds up, but for now, I love the thing, and I did not think I would, but my wife is a pretty good judge of cars and she wanted it, even over a mustang...she said I want a low profile fast, as in the cops won't notice me driving to fast, economic car...we will see how that works...

Yes I apologize I was making fun of the idea of global warming?

Oh gotcha, wait, are we denying that global warming exists? Or just making fun of retarded politicians? If it's the latter, then I'm excited!

Only 26-28mpg? The Fusion is more or less the competitor to the Honda Civic, right? Hell my wife's 2012 Civic routinely pulls off 30-35mpg, so if this "Ecoboost" is only netting 26-28 I'd be pissed.

Driving habits come into play. I and my wife, drive pedal to the floor. The car hauls ass and actually gets better mileage at 80-90 than it does at 70. We both have a need for speed, whether on our Harleys, in a car, or our Dodge Cummins truck. We also have two 4runners, but they are for the dirt roads that surround my hometown and fan out in every direction for hundreds of miles and hauling the dogs. The ford is simply for comfort and driving pleasure and it accomplishes both well, and is not racking up the tickets I would get if it was a Roush or Shelby Mustang. Cops pay very little attention to a silver Ford Fusion, and even when the do, they usually go easy on grandpa.

I recently did a mellow drive about 150 miles round trip, specifically to see what kind of mileage I could get, including the Virgin River Gorge, 29 miles of steep twisties, and got about 32 MPG. Not bad for a comfortable, fun to drive awd car.

That said, I see other problems on the horizon. The more I learn about the eco-boost 2.0, the more I dislike it. The variable cam system they have is not very robust in design, nor is the turbo. I expect intake valve failures at about 65,000 or 70,000 miles. I also think the turbo may go at around the point, or possibly sooner.

The variable cam places to much exhaust back in the cylinder as part of the MAF management and there is no approved way to clean the valves and any lizard piss voids the warranty. As well, if you self tune the ECM and fuel management, you void the warranty, (shades of Harley here.) Using lizard piss may well cook the turbo, and if it does I am likely looking at an engine overhaul. The method for dealing with carbon on the valves is a head replacement. This is insane.

Ford needs to come up with a means of cleaning the head, or they are going to see an epic engine failures which will hurt the brand for years to come. Think Pinto...

In the mean time, I will drive it like stole it, and use the added heat to self clean it, keep my fingers crossed, and start saving for its replacement

I think Ford is on the right track, and I hope the new engine for 2016 addresses some of the issue I see, if it does, I may well trade.

I should mention that my buying a ford was partly political...they didn't take a bailout...having been a Chevy Car or Dodge and Toyota truck man for most of my life, I will never own a Dodge or Chevy again. If I ever need a big truck replacement, I will likely buy something Isuzu, (no longer a Chevy subsidiary)NPR-XD Crew Cab 150"WB...4 wheel drive even...

The king of this marketing scheme is Chryslers "Hemi". Chrysler was neither the first nor only automaker to use hemispherical head combustion chambers in their engines.
