Aquariums

Was at The Wet Spot fish store in Portland, OR today and saw a nice 4th gen, lofted, trd wheels and other stuff. Got me wondering how many of us are into aquariums.

I personally have a 55g high tech planted tank with CO2 injection and all. I got a lot more plants today, but I have not planted them yet. Here is a pic of it before planting the new stuff. Also got a blue phantom pleco today as well. Hopefully he does not uproot all my plants.

we have a 36 Gallon bow front. Now it's only community fish. Colorful but easy to maintain.

I have had reef tanks, salt water with fish only, Chiclids and Oscars. While they look great they are all a PITA to maintain.

How "hard" is a planted tank to maintain? I've had a lot of tanks but never a planted one...

My old tank:

Water: fresh water

Tank size: 135 gallons

Fishes include: cichlids (different colors), 2 arowana, and a sucker (aka fish that gets rid of algae) = 28 fishes

Filters: Eheim 2262 (external) + Whisper Power Filter 60 (hang-on-back) + Undergravel filters w/ 2 air tubes

Wood: maple

-------------------------------------

But last year, we gave the tank away. Too much maintenance. It literally took 4-5 hours to do proper cleaning from beginning to end. I now have a 3-gallon round tank for the kids with a Betta + 2 snails.

After two years of no tank, I bought a small one (10 gallons) to greet people at the door. 2 Oranda goldfish. 1 sucker. 1 snail. Oversized 20 gallon internal filter.

It is such a joy and breeze to clean this thing. I actually enjoy cleaning it!

Before I bought mine I thought it is easy to own an aquarium. I was wrong) I have a saltwater tank and there are many factors that have to be done and they are all very important. Marine fish are bred to live in the ocean, which is a vast expanse of water that’s unlikely to have rapid changes in things like temperature, water quality, and other environmental factors. I also have a bristle worm. And the care is very different.

Such an old thread was brought back to life. Yes, owning the aquarium is a hard task as you have to keep high attention to a lot of factors such as purity of water, the health of fishes and reefs, and a lot of other things. As for me, I've built my reef tank on my own. So, I know the whole system how it works and how to keep it well.

Freshwater is easier to maintain...

Saltwater tanks is nice but pricey hobby...

I gave up due to a blackout during a hot & humid day, no ice cubes anywhere.... If you invest in a aquarium, don't forget the electricity backup-
