A Detroit woman has filed a federal lawsuit claiming Apple stole her patented idea for a smart watch. “I was the first to put in for a patent for a ‘computer wrist watch,'” Daisy Washington-Gross said in the suit filed Friday in Eastern Michigan U.S. District Court.
Washington-Gross claims Apple’s watch infringed on her pending patent for the “Detachable Beeper Disc Digital Gym Shoe Computer Watch.” She’s demanding $2 billion.
Lest one imagine the technology behemoth quaking in its boots over Washington-Gross’s enormous demand, it must be noted that she sued Reebok in 2000, claiming that “I invented the gym shoe.” That invention was for the “Beeper Disc Digital Detchable (sic) Gym Shoe, Disc Digital with Time/Step Sensor Scanner Devices, Mirco-Chips (sic),” Washington-Gross said in her lawsuit, a document loaded with typos and misspellings and also filed in Eastern Michigan U.S. District Court.
She's just trying to get rich quick......hmmmm this is good idea......
On a side note I invented the wheel and have a pending patent so y'all better watch it!

I think I had the first "smart" watch in high school. It was a Seiko pager watch called the Receptor. In addition to being a pager, it gave all sorts of random info daily that included weather, local sports scores, stock updates, gold price updates, ski reports and on and on. It also told me when OJ was found not guilty and when Princess Diana died.

Sounds almost like someone claiming they invented a vehicle specific roof rack. . . . . too soon?

You mean those evil pagers weren't banned at your high school?
I've never seen that particular bit of tech but my cutting edge tech expert (son) wasn't born yet.
Pagers were banned at our school, but no one knew it was a pager, so I never had issues with it. The rare times it went off in class, it just sounded like a watch beeping.
And for the record, no I wasn't dealing drugs or some crazy popular kid to where I actually had a use for one. It was definitely more of just a novelty thing. At the time I used it most for sports scores. It would keep me updated on Sonics (yes, when we actually still had an NBA team) and Mariners scores as the games were being played. Remember, no internets.

But really whenever I hear about a pager I always think of this scene

And you know damn well that I have full rights to the term "WristPad". Taking it to the grave too.
