I'm about to drop some money on a new i7 VR build at the end of the month. Currently still enjoying BF4 but going to start on BF1 when the new build is done.

My gaming history favorites have been (in no particular order): most and all iD games (DOOM, Heretic, Hexen, Quake, Keen), Apogee/3D Realm hits like RoTT and Duke Nukem, various flight sims (DCS World is why I want a VR rig), anything and everything Star Wars (Dark Forces, X-Wing, TIE, Rebel Assault), Half-Life everything (CS too), MechWarrior(s), StarCraft, Command and Conquer, and the Battlefield series all the way back to 1942 (1942, Viet, 2, 3, and 4, but could do without Hardline and some of the other stuff in there).

I will say that the latest Doom release was the single best PC gaming experience I've had in ages (maybe since HL2) ****ing incredible that I was literally outloud giddy as I played it, and I yelled "**** YES" as the end credits came on after the final boss. They set the bar so high for revisiting a classic title and just nailed it so far out of the park.

I was just having a conversation about modded 4Runners in the Zombie 48p server last night! Which servers do you usually play on?

It seems like we're all pretty old-school here too, so I'll offer this too...anyone else hate the whole DLC concept? I miss when games were complete when you bought them, and if anything else needed to be added, they'd come out with a new game (e.g. Doom II, III). It used to drive me nuts when I was a broke college kid and it just doesn't feel very egalitarian anymore.
Right on! I mostly play West coast time zone on TDM mode. There are very few U.S. based TDM dedicated servers. I play on the S.O.C. (Soldiers of chaos) server. Good core group of mature guys and gals. I also don't care for the DLC game model. It pisses me off that you have to pay about $130 if you wish to play all the maps. I played BF1 open beta and was not blown away. They changed the server set up so that you cannot run your own server. You have to use their servers. I see it as just another way for them to try to generate revenue. Part of me wants to give it to him to see if it will actually be a successful launch. They have had a couple false starts with other games like Hardline and something else that I'm forgetting, that did not do well and depopulated shortly after launch. The problem is there's not much of an alternative these days. Most people that like Battlefield series consider Call of Duty to be a total shitshow. I might hold out until the price comes down and continue to play BF4 for the time being. I guess we'll see. By all means drop by on the server and give it a try. I go buy Flapjack Actual on the server.

That game and the game "Cannon Fodder" were probably my top 2 games before I got a computer good enough to play flight sims.

I vaguely recall a game by Electronic Arts called...Archon...for the Commodore 64. Good times

I miss PC gaming, my Win XP desktop is done. A Win 10, 64 bit took it's place and can't play old EA games. Any fun free downloads that will work for me??

I remember that game! But only because I played it on my (here we go) Palm Pilot M100.

Depends on how far you want to go back, how obscure the game, and how dedicated you are to getting it to work right.

Check out dosbox and myabandonware.com to get you started. I haven't had much luck with dosbox but on one of my old PCs (circa mid-90's) thats now airgapped and running Win98SE, I've had reasonable success downloading/burning to CD/installing/playing some games from abandonware websites.

If you're into older consoles, head to Play Atari 2600 Online, or google play NES online or play SNES online or play retro games online. There are a bunch of sites.

Good luck!

Ha

The new one yes, It runs fine lol. Scales well to 6048x1080 too.

The old one doesn't seem to do all that well with modern x64 OS and drivers

Mad max is quite fun too... a bit repetitive.. but if you like the movies, worth a go.

I played the hell out Star Control 2 when it came out in the early 90's. Absolutely agree that it was the best game of all time.

Fractured Space is free on steam...it looks ok for a Freebie.

Currently wasting too much time on No Man's Sky, since the update.

I don't play but my son just went pro with CLG Overwatch. Just made the announcement in Vegas on Friday. PM me if you want more info.

Used to be a beta tester and top player for LOL (riot games) in Santa Monica. Cool place.

Anyone still play command and conquer Red alert 2? Probably the best game I've ever played.

I was thinking more on the line of Missle Command, Space Invaders, and Pole Position, but that's before my first TRS 80. Very few on here will have any clue about what I just said. I loved PONG!!

PC gaming for sure.
Mostly FPS like Bioshock, Fallout3+, etc, Although I do like my platforming games; Alice, Zelda, etc.

I have a few older consoles (original XBOX, PS2, and Wii), but I can't justify the cost of a newer console when you can buy all the same games (barring a few console exclusives) for the PC, and Steam has them on sale within days of release.

Also don't HAVE to keep buying new consoles to keep up with the latest games. Just turn the graphics down slightly while I save for a new GPU.

I also run the hell out of my PC and Android Emulators.
PS1, GameCube, GBA, DS.
You can copy the save file back and forth through Google Drive and take your game with you on the go!

I so got my wife addicted to Pokemon...first the GB and DS games, now the show...

Good for him! I played in some pretty big gaming tournaments when I was younger but never with the kind of cash that's on the line now!

I wasn't aware that Overwatch was going to have a professional scene. Personally I thought that game was pretty lame... In my opinion, it was Team Fortress 2 meets Halo. Two games I didn't care for.

I imagine your son is the one that's a WGA member with me =p

Cool!
