So I've been thinking about picking up a new desktop. Mostly for gaming, but also for general use. I've been using laptops for a long time now and sometimes I miss sitting at a proper desk with a full keyboard/mouse to do computing.

Anyway I've been out of the computer spec world for a long time now so could use a little advice. After spending a while searching various retailers I came across this Alienware pre-built system:
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...12321210.aspx?

- i7 8700
- 16GB 2666MHz RAM
- 1TB HDD with Intel optane booster
- GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

On sale right now with $500 off for $1499 CAD (About $1150 USD). Sale ends today however. Thoughts?

I have played World of Warcraft since alpha testing. My wife and both sons play also.

Late to the reply here, but from my experience it's always cheaper to buy parts individually and assemble the desktop yourself. You'll save hundreds of dollars as well as learn a thing or two about computers while you're at it.

Check out Pick parts. Build your PC. Compare and share. - PCPartPicker and choose the System Builder tab.

You can use an interactive assembling process that breaks down exactly the components that are/aren't compatible with one another, and it'll also make it clear you're not forgetting anything. I still use it from time to time if I forget what's compatible with my 6 year old motherboard.

Been playing games on PC since 1991, when my dad got a desktop running Windows 3.1

Started out playing Wolfenstein 3d, Doom/Doom2, BioHazard, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Jetfighter, Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Commander Keen, etc.

Over the years I've developed more engrossing hobbies but I still make time here and there to play a game or two. Takes me about half a year to finish a game though due to my schedule/priorities.

Right now I spend 3 to 4 hour per night playing Red Dead Redemption 2 online on my XBOX ONE X( It's a console but technically it's a specialized PC).

I have played games since playing pac-man in an arcade.

RDR2 online is the best of the best. It is fun when we get our posse together and tame the wild west. It by far has the best graphics and story-line out there since Grand Theft Auto V.

I need to try Warcraft Classic.

I have been playing off and on since BC was released, been a few months now though.

My old PC with a 560 TI that I built in 2011 is dying, so I built a new one. Haven't played games much lately, but Spintires and GTA V on FiveM. Friends want me to start playing Destiny 2 and the new COD.

Processor: Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite WiFi
GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2060 OC (triple fan it the perfect length)
Memory: 16gb RAM Corsair Vengance LPX
Storage: WD Blue 2tb HDD, Samsung 860 Evo 1tb SSD
PSU: EVGA G3 Sypernova 750W
OS: Windows 10 Home
Case: Meshify C mid case
Cooling: two 140mm Noctua intake fans in front, two 120mm Noctua exhaust fans on top/rear

The wife and I play alot of Clash of Clans on our tablets. It's pretty fun and non linear so you can stop anytime, which is good cause I work too damned much. CoC is a real time strategy game and kinda reminds me of StarCraft or the old original Warcraft a bit before they made it an MMORPG. Nothing like owning some noobs and taking their loot on the commercial break while Netflix and chillin.

I play Arma III with a group, we have 2 session nights a week. Usually modern stuff but we have an 8-hours WWII event coming up for the The Battle of El Alamein, could be up to 120 players
YouTube

I also just started playing iRacing, just got a D license

Memory: 64 GB G. Skill Ripjaws V Series DDR4-3200

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750 W 80+ Gold
OS: Windows 10 Home
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case
Cooling: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler

RDR2 is out for PC next month - I plan on putting some hours into that one when it drops! RDR was an amazing game. Sounds like number 2 lived up to the legend.

Yeah I have buddies that are drooling for it on PC. I have one capable of running it but I prefer the XBOX ONE X in 4K on my 82" TV.
