Tacoma 4x2 to 4x4 conversion.

Tacoma world is being criticising instead of helpful at the moment.

seen the write ups on tacoma 4x4 conversions. Know the parts lists since it's a prerunner frame it's a matter of picking the parts from a pick and pull doing a little maintenence on em and bolting them into place.

Price for picking my own parts and doing my own labor is stupid cheaper than trading my truck in for a 4x4. So that's the number 1 response from tacoma world... the number 2 is I'm stupid for getting a prerunner... my response A) The truck was the right price at the right time in my life to be able to support a new child and have transportation needs for me my son and my wife. My life my money my mistakes, whatever.
B) I'm in a better spot financially to be lucky enough to have a 2016 T4r and keep my taco (that's paid for) The last thing I want to do is have another truck payment on top of my t4r payment.

Please try to refrain from these comments as my post in tacoma world is completely feeling up with these exact statements.

IF YOUR ACTUALLY A HELPFUL PERSON PLEASE READ AHEAD

Now, Does anyone have any advice on what brands, means of obtaining items, helpful hints or advice from some of you pros on what order to install.

Can I install the front Diff and CV axels and drive around for a while till I find more time to install the transfer case and transmission,

electric wise if I choose to go with the FJ transfer case that is manual will i still need the 4x4 ecu?

I'm very mechanic inclined but don't have any experience with 4wd only fwd and rwd cars. And I'm in the Marines and have worked on M1A1 Assualt Breacher Vehicles. (nothing like a truck in any freaking way)
I'm not an expert mechanic but I know my way around a tool box. Thank You for any and all advice.

What year Tacoma are we talking here? First or second gen?

Im not super familiar with the FJ-Tcase and working with modern ECU crap. Im mostly a classic yota guy. But you should be fine bolting up the front diff, CVs, spindles etc until you get time to put a tcase and trans in. Ive dont that in the past when we were converting other vehicles to 4wd. Maybe Ajohnson could be of more assistance. Hes on here but his build thread is on Tacomaworld. He converted a 2nd gen prerunner to 4x4.
