DirecTv has a few channels and Netflix/Amazon have some movies and TV in 4K but mostly it's the Bluray's. Pretty much all new movies have 4K for only a couple dollars more.

HDR .... here is the big issue for me. I had to buy a TV when I did but I was on the fence I'd say definitely wait 1-2 for the HDR format wars to play out more.

I'm probably in the minority, but I personally don't like some things in super high def. There are even things I don't like in 1080. Sports and nature shows look amazing. There the more the better. But I feel that day to day television shows come out looking too fake with a soap opera feel.

my 47 Vizio led TV main board finally died .. 8 yrs old .. so last September I did some searching and found LG to be a more reliable LED tv.. also very low power use.. I purchased from costco total price no taxes $620 with a 5 yr warranty .. model #55uj6540..

so far works good also great bluetooth hook up .. netflex and Hulu works perfect very good HD picture..

I also have 43 OTA channels [antenna] and the 1080 is perfect esp watching any sport programs ..

OLED does look great but the price is a bit too high for me.. My tv is very thin and light .. purchased a wall mount at Homedepot .. $80.. extremely strong.. sets on wall like a picture and the cables are in the wall.. I put an outlet behind the TV using an old work electrical box with a surge protector .

buying an OLED with limited 4K programs is IMO not a good selection at this time ...

DTV has the most 4K but limited program ..

when the OTA is 4K then I will buy one.

Interesting about the burn in as I've heard both from people. Some say OLED's are prone to burn in issues, others seem to say that these new LG panels dont really have problems with burn in. Not sure which to believe.

I find that with high refresh rates, like the '120Hz' or '240Hz' TV's. Or else from software based motion smoothing that comes on by default on a lot of TV's. I always turn that stuff off right away and find the picture looks better without it. I hate that 'soap opera effect'.

I have the 55" LG OLED. No regrets on the purchase. 4K content pops, 720 or 1080p I don't think you'll notice any difference until you go up to 65"+

If you want to throw your money away buying an OLED LG B8/C8 panel inside a Sony plastic shell for extra $500 go ahead!

Sony does not make OLED panels they are all LG just rebranded. My aunt has a "Sony OLED" (eg LG) and she loves it.

One thing to consider is that Costco sells the LG and you get an extra 2 years warranty at no cost and the 3 year add on (extends it to 5 total) is like $89.

Cool. I feel the aesthetics of the tv when off are important and Sony has always had good style compared to other brands but I've not shopped LG before.

I've loved Sony going back to my 36" trinitron wega, the flat screen on the custom matching stand. All 500lb of that was pretty sexy back in the day.

Attempted to carry one of those down a flight of stairs years ago with my brother. However, the tv had a mind of its own, slipped out of our hands, and fell through a sheetrock wall. Damn if it still didn't work though afterwards.

Miss my XBR2. Loved that TV.

@TK-422 , you need a bigger house. And a HVLP paint sprayer to paint those in-wall speakers.

my 8yr old 47 inch Vizio has all LG circuit boards .. worked good for the 8yrs of heavy use .. now its dead .. thats about all we are gonna get out of these TV sets.. 6-8 yrs .. 5 yr warranty is a good insurance policy if you do buy the $3K OLED..

8 years! That is when I plan to replace it anyways so all good.

TV lifespan is of course related to person use and will vary family to family. $2k for a TV and it lasts 8 years, that breaks down to $250 per year or $10.41 / month. This is why buying a $2.7K TV was not an issue. I prefer quality and frankly I get a heck of a lot more use of this OLED TV 52 weeks a year than even my truck which isn't a daily driver.

By the time 7 more years roll around and I'm ready to throw down on next TV hopefully $2K buys more than 65" of OLED. 75" would be soooooooo amazing!

I should also post that there is a good reason for holding out another year if you can. The HDR wars are still ongoing with no end in sight. HDR 10 vs Dolby Vision vs HDR 10+ vs whatever else was just invented last week.

4K programing hopefully will get available in the next 8yrs .. then some other technology will be replacing OLED ..

might weigh 2 lbs with 80 inch screen . programing thru cell towers ..no STB..
