This is the fire pan you are looking for

The link is to a discussion on the Mt. Buzz whitewater forum on the Campfire Defender pop-up fire pit. They fold up like a camp chair and come with a bag for $99.

I have one of these we use for multi-night rafting trips, like the 99-mile 7-day Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho we are doing next week. They beat the hell out of the heavy steel beasts we’ve been hauling down the river for years.

Portable 8lb Fire Pit/Pan - Mountain Buzz

You can get them on Amazon, made in USA, all aluminum except for the steel mesh:

I have that in my amazon cart at the moment. Good to hear that it holds up.

Trying to decide if I want to go ahead and get the full grill with it as it's on sale for $25 off right now.
Do you think there would ever be a reason to use the grill instead of just a camp stove top?

I just added the grill addition to it on sale as well, but haven't used that part of it yet. We will be doing some cooking on it next week on the river trip, so I will be able to give you more of an opinion when I get back on July 1.

For river trips there are very specific requirements for fire pan specifications depending on the managing agency. Every group HAS to carry one, as the limited campsites along the river just get hammered if everyone just did fire rings like in the old days. These meet all of the regulations, but you still have to get the ranger at the boat ramp to sign off. These are getting plenty of use in the whitewater world for their folded up size and light weight, so I'm sure they've seen them at the launch, but it still makes me nervous with a new product.
