I'm not a phone gamer, nor do I watch much on it. As well as I have a multitude of other cameras at my disposal and don't feel I would need the twin camera feature.

Any reason to argue the XS? Sorry for the tangent to the actual topic.

*addition* one big plus of the XS is the size. I don't want a big phone and it being the smallest of the three is very appealing.
Actually, Xr is the phone for you. And it may turn out that Xr is also the BEST gaming device of the bunch because its low screen resolution is very easy to run smoothly with the A12 processor. The expensive XS and XS Max have higher resolution displays and therefore harder for the processor to drive. Xr will have the best battery of the bunch for the same reason...lower rez display. Camera is plenty good. The ONLY negatives: cheaper feeling (compared to XS; but fine compared to your 6s), less RAM (3GB vs. 4GB), low resolution display (but supposedly still high quality), kinda big with slightly thicker bezels, and no dual lenses.

Tee PLUS of Xr: class leading battery life, superb gaming (if low res display not an issue), cheap to own, amazing A12 chip will be future proof as you get, bright and color accurate display, FaceID, and a great single camera with almost all the features of the XS.

I think that the Xr will be a best seller by far of the line-up.

I may wait until its released to get both in my hand. The other option is if they continue to sell the X, to just pick up one of those. I really don't want a bigger phone than what I have now.

X is officially gone. It was a true limited edition for Apple iPhones.

Apple makes and sells watches to people who wouldn't normally buy a watch and those who also don't really care that much about mechanical watches. Probably the vast majority of people on this planet couldn't fathom spending $5-10K on a watch. I'd imagine a large chunk of customers already own other Apple products which they enjoy and want something else they offered. I'd be hard pressed to believe that anything more than a tiny, fraction of a percent of customers of the Apple watch were those that were also considering multi-thousand dollar Swiss mechanical watches. That's not to say that there aren't a ton of people that own both, but you don't typically go out looking to buy a Rolex and end up with an Apple Watch instead. I'm sure they are eating away at the lower end mechanical and quartz market, but to say companies like Rolex, Omega, ALS, Patek, AP, etc are in danger because of the Apple watch would be to say that Ferrari and Lamborghini are in danger because of the volume of business Toyota and Honda do.

For me the draw of the Apple Watch 4 is strictly the medical benefits. As far as fitness tracking goes I'd still much rather have a dedicated Garmin GPS running/triathlon/etc offering and for day-to-day I'd much rather wear a mechanical (probably a minority opinion here). Now if Apple would also come out with something that more closely resembles a Fitbit in size with the health monitoring benefits without trying to dominate my wrist I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I used to wear a watch on one wrist and a small Fitbit on the other, but there is no way I would do a dedicated watch on each wrist and there is no way I'm giving up my mechanicals for an AW.

Actually, my family is one. Wife and I had Rolexes before (Turn-o-graph and Yachtmaster). Surprisingly, my wife now refuses to wear her Rolex...and she is not techy at all...even to parties or work gatherings. I have tried several times to wear my TOG again, but i started missing my Apple Watch after a day or so.

My brother's family...again not the most techy folks...he has Sea Dweller and GMT in his safe while he wears his Apple Watch. Wife also wears Apple Watch. (He loves his Apple Watch so much that he was willing to sell me his Sea Dweller!! GMT will go to his son in the future.)

Did you know that before Apple Watch, the #1 watch manufacturer was Rolex? I read that and was shocked.

Apple rakes in over $10 billion dollars over the past year in wearables, most of which came from Apple Watch. ONE year = $10 BILLIONS.

Do you think that Apple Watch got to be #1 (and tons of revenues) by selling only to the middle class and lower? This is not Android we're talking about. I would bet that 99.99% of rich folks and over 70-80% of businesses own iPhones/iPads. Apple Watch only works on iPhones. I think Apple Watch is stealing customers from EVERYONE.

Now, i am sure that there are plenty of rich folks that own both...AP, Patek, Rolex, etc AND Apple Watch. But to say that AP, Rolex,Patek, etc owners don't bother with Apple Watch is wrong. My family is proof of that.

I think that for triathlons etc, Garmin is still the device to have. But a lot of those folks also own Apple Watch for day-to-day because Garmin integration into your iPhone/iPad is horrible!! My son has a Garmin...just bad the way the app does things. But for the dedicated biker or runner, Garmin is still a step ahead for the actual activity.........but that gap is closing everyday.

As for Fitbit, there is really nothing that Fitbit does that Apple Watch cannot. And this was why Fitbit stocks crumpled 2 days ago when Apple Watch Series 4 was introduced! Fitbit is pretty much on life support at this time...living on borrowed time. It simply cannot compete at this stage.

Personally I am holding off on buying Series 4 after much thought. As I have said before, I really want a blood sugar monitoring (non-invasive). Geez, a device that checks heart AND blood sugar IS the holy grail!

https://www.google.com/amp/s/9to5mac...ple-watch/amp/

This old article gives me hope and that is why I am holding off. I turn off “RAISE TO WAKE” on my 3 years old Watch and getting decent battery life for now.

I didn't say that, in fact I stated the exact thing you said. I know there is overlap. What I said was people don't go out car shopping for a new Ferrari and decide they're rather bring home a 4-door Accord. That's not to say a Ferrari owner can't also have an Accord for daily driving, but the people in the market for the Ferrari will still buy a Ferrari no matter how many Accords are sold.

The question is...on the next purchase, will those Rolex + Apple Watch owners buy another Apple Watch or a Rolex.

And in my opinion those are two drastically different decisions. If they want another Rolex, they'll buy the Rolex. If they want to update their Apple Watch they'll buy the Apple Watch.

For years, i always wondered why Apple does not turn on oxygen level measurements on Apple Watch. The hardware is there...but Apple deactivated the RED LED light.

I never understood why...until i read this: Why smart-watches that measure blood-oxygen levels could cause a panic ? Dr Lewis E. MacKenzie

Makes sense.

Interestingly, Fitbit Ionic was initially advertised to be able to measure O2 sat...but since product release, has been quiet about any update to use that hardware. Basically, apparently, this is a huge legal nightmare that no one wants to step into.
