After that tear that they went on post all-star break last year, I hope it continues and don't miss the post season by one measly point

Tell that to all the Bean Pot kids getting a free Ivy League education for playing hockey and there are some darn good players that come out of those schools.

Agree with you there. Hockey players historically come from households that have higher incomes, which generally means better education. Tough for poor people to play a game that is so expensive.

Those kids are the exception. And even with those Bean Pot kids, not all of them take advantage of their education. All I know is that out of all the major sports in North America, the route of hockey excellence gets in the way of a kid's education more than any other. All the travel. All the billeting. Leaving school early consistently to go to games and showcases. Boston and Minnesota are really the only two places where you can stay all the through juniors and make fairly far (NCAA or higher). Living in the Philadelphia, PA area, I see what a lot of those "Tier I" players go through and a handful of them end going somewhere else to move to the next level(s). It's a lot. And unless you live in the two aforementioned hockey beds, you won't get anywhere playing JUST high school hockey.

It is true that the majority of players don’t go the NCAA route but I do have to say there are some significant hockey programs outside of Minnesota and Boston. The whole Big 10 has had strong hockey programs for quite sometime and other schools have been following suit. Heck, even here in Vegas they have a decent program at UNLV. Two of one of my friends kids here inVegas got full rides to play hockey, one went to Michigan and the other to Michigan State. They both played in the juniors before going the NCAA. The juniors aren’t the only route anymore and more and more kids are starting to take advantage of it. Hopefully they study!

I agree. The expansion of non-hockey markets is great for the game in the sense that it gives more people the chance to make it "big." I think ACHA hockey is fantastic because it gave/gives us players a chance to play competitive hockey for another 4 years. Its really tough to get a chance to play NCAA hockey and a lot dudes/dudettes expend a lot of time and energy to realize the harsh reality of varsity hockey at the college ranks. ACHA hockey has some legitimate programs that are ran like NCAA-lite entities. It's good to see I hope to see more schools put in the effort to establish club hockey.

Not the prettiest opener for the Pens, but a win is a win! Especially when it comes against the Caps.

Go AVS!
They are young, fast and looking good in the season opener.
Excited to see them mature and blossom. Lots of young skill on the roster.
Fun hockey to watch.

Well, didn't see that coming: Flyers beat the Knights in Vegas handily. Nice way to kick off the season.

I’m late to the dance
It’s a good day when we are discussing the ACHA on here! Fantastic leauge the National Champship tournament is in Dallas this year I hope to get to run down there for the weekend and watch. Club hockey is great we go to OU & Central Oklahoma games as much as we can. My kids and I both really enjoy going. Very affordable and the hockey is pretty good. I did go see my first DI college hockey in person Friday night after watching it for years on TV. Boston College at Quinnipiac. That was fantastic hockey I really enjoyed it. Nice old fashioned 1-0 game. I had fantastic seats too. hopefully DI college hockey will continue to grow and I won’t have to travel as far to take in a game.
My Jets are back to being the same old Inconsistant Jets so far this season.
