Lightbulb 3D Printer Ideas - Submit your ideas !

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to think of possible 3D printer project ideas and wanted everyones input.

I know there's a handful of things people have already made here:

Shout out to @marcus clarkus for his great work below.
- SR5 Mudflaps : Finally! 3D printed SR5 Mudflaps and Flare End Caps (free download)
- Outlet Covers : 3D printed outlet cover - Convert rear ashtray to 12V/USB outlets

I've traditionally made 3D prints for tech related things but nothing for automotive application yet.

Submit your ideas and I'll start researching !

Any experience building a bezel for a custom tablet install in the dash? That would definitely pique my interest. I'll be looking to do this soon once I lock down a 3rd gen.

3D Printer Ideas - Submit your ideas !

This is a thread i can get into!

I should have more ideas as i move to the interior work on my 4R and hopefully can regain access to the printer at my office.
A while back i was able to design and print a few bits for my other cars.

for my bugaru i made an oil cap(from the factory it had a long filler neck that didn't fit under the vw decklid.

and an ebrake cable spacer to tighten up the stretched out factory cables.

My e39 has terrible factory cupholders so i built one for it. Can't find the files but i'll take a pic later.
Edit:

Also made my wife a keychain for her Pro4

and a bottle holder for my swell bottle so i could hook it onto a backpack while hiking

I think my first step might be a bezel for my inclinometer

replacement cup holders inserts on a 5th gen.

the factory ones stick and grab to anything I put in them. so figure out how to print ones that don't stick to a tumbler/yetti and come out with the mug and that would be great.

Have all the parts for my diff breather except for a mount (using one m8 bolt in an existing hole in the engine bay) for the manifold. Mount attaches to engine bay individual nut attachment point then manifold attaches to each wing or tab. Going to make one out of aluminum strap from home Depot or reasonable facsimile. Not drilling two holes in my sheet metal and winding sheet metal screws into it to attach my manifold... Sorry for the bad art.

Just use heavy duty velcro on the bottom of them. I use a 24 oz thermos and it solved that problem.

No experience with dash bezels but its something I can look into.

I'm assuming most people with either put in their iPad minis or small android tablet.

Only issues would be how many different brands of tablets and sizes there are.

I haven't really made any vehicle parts but lots of stuff for around the house and for work.

A perfect circle to hold airlines that add bubbles to a vortex fountain.

A puck to hold pixel lights for a Really Big Light Christmas display (replaces a bulb).

Flashlight holders

Power supply cover with fuses and a voltage meter.

A dual RSA token holder to keep them together.

A vortex dust collector to collect dust in a 5 gallon bucket and keep from having to dump out the shop vac as often.

thank you, i got lucky on that one. I'm a noob with the printing part and could not get a thicker design to print completely without lifting so my original, thinner design actually became the one i used.

Two things that can help the lifting. Bed heat and hairspray.

Depending on the filament it needs a certain bed temp to stick. PLA is about 50c and ABS is 110c.

A good spray of hairspray just before you start printing will also help stick the parts to the bed.

Yeah they supplied some prep spray and i tried several bed temps but no luck on that design. If i get a chance to take another swing at it i'll definitely research a bit more and dial it in to work
