It's a firm mattress and I think she likes softer mattresses. The Tempur was soft but with the depressions it felt like sleeping in a hammock and made both of our backs hurt. I think if she had a softer mattress than the Purple with even support for the full length of the bed she would like it better.

I've had a tuft and needle queen mattress for 3.5 years and love it. best mattress i've owned so far and its not showing any wear. the only thing i can say negative about it is theres not much support on the sides so if you sit on the edge of the bed to put your socks on it sinks.
our old trad mattress was making our backs hurt and since switching we haven't had any backaches.

We have a performasleep mattress after a few recommendations from friends at the gym. It’s been a couple years now and we are very happy with it.

The user experiences would be even more helpful if weight were included. At 240ish lbs I tend to murder pillow tops in a matter of months, but it’s not visible on the empty mattress so no warranty. Is it just me or does it seem mattresses lasted far longer 30 years ago? And what happened to the flippable mattress? Todays stuff is like getting half the product of the past with twice the price.

Before all the bed in a box companies took off there was some popular brand sold by Amazon. A bunch of guys on another forum gave it high marks and I ended up ordering one as we needed a bed.
We were warned that it off-gassed and took a few days to sort itself out. We opened up the box, cut the plastic and it unrolled, filled up and off-gassed as expected. It was way too much, we got light headed. Never found it comfortable. And when I tried to return it, it took the logistic company 3 tries before finally succeeding in picking it up. Along the way I got threats from Amazon that they were going to re-charge me, to which I replied the logistics driver saw the mattress and literally drove off. It was also funny explaining to guests why there was a mattress propped up by our door.
Anyways...doubt I'm ever going to live that decision down. Glad to hear many of you have better experiences.
This said, our dog does have a Casper and she seems to love it.

We bought a new king sized pillow top mattress a year and a half ago when we moved to our new city. In a year and a half, it's developed deep craters for both me and my wife so we've already flipped it. We thought about a mattress in a box, but couldn't find anyone that had owned one over a few months so we decided against it.
Do any of these brands show wear or body impressions? Or are they all immune?

5'10" 240lbs
I had a no-name memory foam mattress from Woot.com for about 4 years. I built a platform for it instead of using slats or a boxspring. Any mattress is better supported and will work as designed with a platform over any other base support. Go this route. It doesn't have to be fancy, even laying 3/8+" plywood over your existing supports will make a difference in your existing mattress.
Last year I retired the memory foam to the guest room. When not used daily it's nice and supportive, though somewhat warm. Used daily it never really returned to a flat square shape, hence over time became less and less supportive. I gave up on the quicksand feeling trying to turn over in bed or conduct other pleasure activities.
I considered many different replacements, eventually settling on a hybrid mattress. Having springs to provide support, but a giving memory foam top absolutely helped. But in the end I gave up on the memory foam because of the heat issue, I like to sleep cool. I went with Nest Bedding's Latex Hybrid Mattress. While more expensive than other online purchase options, the latex is both cooler and more resilient than memory foam. I also liked that you can change out the latex layer in halves if you need to change firmness, so you don't need a whole new mattress if you happen to change partners or become long term injured and need something softer/firmer. Going on more than a year now, and I still love the mattress. I'm comfortable enough in bed that I often don't want to leave it. Rolling over and going back to sleep has become a frequent occurrence, even if I've already managed 8 hours! I've only rotated the mattress once, because I sadly sleep alone 99% of the time and wanted to start breaking in the other side. The mattress does have some bounce to it because of the springs, but they are encapsulated so most of it does not transfer. (You won't see the jumping on the bed with red wine on the other corner with this mattress). But my partners have never complained about feeling my shifting in the night, even when specifically asked.
For something you're supposed to spend 1/3 of every single day on (unless you frequently travel), spend some money and get what works for you. Find reviews from people with your build and body weight. Sadly many of the online reviews that you can find are these skinny-jean millennials who don't have any mass to them. So they tend to slam the firm mattress as too firm and uncomfortable, when in reality it's just what someone of normal or large proportions needs.

Been happy with the queen from Casper ever since we moved in 2 years ago.
Both are relative lightweights under 150lbs.
I love it (back/side sleeper), wife is so-so since she sleeps on her stomach..

The ones mentioned here all seem tremendously expensive, at least in my world. I personally don't think I'd ever buy something like a mattress online. What's the big attraction to buying online versus going somewhere to try and buy? Just curious. I would think the prospect of having to return/exchange because it doesn't feel like you expected, etc., would be a pain. Plus, they don't seem to be inexpensive online.

Can't speak from them all, but Casper will pickup/move/donate the mattress or related things to a local charity.
Returned the bed frame, and it went to charity.

I think one of the biggest appeals is that many of the online box mattress companies offer a risk-free trial period where you can return for a full refund and they'll schedule to pick it up. One, it's coming down to convenience in this Amazon Prime sort of time. Two, you get a much better idea of how it feels since you're actually testing it out when you're sleeping and not just laying on it. I've laid on plenty of mattresses that felt comfortable enough when just lying there, but have not been the best when it comes to actual sleep.

That makes sense. If your local store doesn't offer a longish-term return policy, I agree with what you're saying. Plus, if they make returns/exchanges easy (they bring another mattress to try when picking up the first one?), then yep, very little pain.

How do you get rid of your old mattress? When we bought mattresses from a store, they'd take the old one away for us. Do these online companies do that?
Also, if you sleep on the new one for a while, then decide you don't like it and send it back, what do you sleep on until you can find another mattress?
