I dumped direct TV after it got to $140 per month. Put an antennae on the roof and also use Amazon prime video.

Internet only: Switching back to Fios fiber optic (1G this time) in 2 weeks after Optimum raised their prices for 200M. No contract unlike before.

We have an Apple TV and use the Sling and Amazon Prime apps. I use the MotoGP app to watch Grand Prix Motorcycle races. All month to month. We tried the Showtime app for awhile but now have it on Sling. There are a lot of apps that are free and have some decent stuff on them.

When we quit Fios we had TV Phone Internet. I did a lot of reading on “Cutting the Cable”. It was a good feeling and saved us $.

While it is nice that everyone is bragging about what they are using, it looks like I'm one of the few that has actually read the OP's post.

It appears that he is in a location with bad internet and no cable TV (or else he'd have better internet). He also has poor cell phone reception (but has he checked other providers?)

In general, there are three options for TV:

Antenna
Cable
Satellite

To check what is available on antenna, the OP should go to one of the signal finder sites like this one. Most are sponsored by an antenna retailer, so he should probably check multiple sites. On the site I linked to, he should try it with and without checking the "30ft antenna mast" box to see what a properly installed antenna can get.

That will give him a baseline of what he can get with a single (probably $300 or so) investment.

There are similar sites that will tell him what his internet options are. If he can decent internet, then that opens up a multitude of options like others have said. Without decent internet, none of those options are viable.

Satellite TV has two basic consumer options in the US - Dish and DirectTV. I had DTV for about 20 years and liked it, but the prices kept creeping up and I jumped ship to FIOS as soon as it became available.

Many (most?) of us live in areas where we have a multitude of internet options and a halfway decent antenna will pull in 30+ stations. In my area, a $9 flat antenna that I can literally toss behind the TV gets 50+ channels and the TV upstairs gets over 60.

So, step 1 - check antenna options
Step 2 - check internet options
Step 3 - check the other satellite provider
Step 4 - check cell phone providers

I use to have DirecTV but dumped it. Tried DTV's streaming service but wasn't impressed. Then tried sling and same result.

We have been using Fubo for about a year now and really like it. That along with Amazon Prime and Netflix and we're set.

The only think I miss is the sports packages that DirecTV had but I can live without it.

My TV from 2007 has slowly been developing a large smear like section were the pixels are dimmer that the rest of the TV.

Bought a new 'smart' Sony Bravia tv.
Works similar to a tablet, downloading different applications from the Play Store.
Free tv and movies with my $45 internet that i already use.
Tubi, Pluto tv, Peacock and Crackle are all free. Live and old movies and tv series.
Been getting into Eureka and Warehouse 13, have not seen in ages.(Peacock)

Only a month on this free tv but i like it.
Can subscribe to specific channels too, not quite there yet for me.
Has not been anything at all worth a damn on the Dish for 2-3 months, i dont think i will miss Dish.

So long and thanks for all the fish, Dish.

Die Dish Die!

Just said F it and yanked the dish reciever last month, turned it on maybe 5 times the month before that.

Last time was about 5 days over due and cut off, now claiming they let it slide for 20 days...LOL.

Could not access my account, changed password...nope, different login device...nope.

Double billing me now $222 and threat of sending me to collections for their 'pro rated' bill of $77.
Guess i should have called and told them to F-off right away. Lol.
Thanks dish.

Loving the FREE junk on the stream/internet tv.
So much better...and free, did i mention that.
Can pick the garbage you see.
Can pause and replay, on the movies.
Tubi is my fav so far, lots of obscure old stuff. Way less adds than the others.
Some of that live tv, like Pluto is a bit heavy in the commercials but not any worse than the paid Dish service.
That Peacock is very commercial happy too.
...and seems like Crackle is paid by the commercial volume... as in way to loud

I went through the same thing with those satellite radio companies. The collections process is an empty threat… it’s just part of their annoying and aggressive AR workflow.

I just ignore it... cost them more to actually start a collections process.

We recently switched from Sling to FuboTV and Fanatiz.
I am a big Brazilian and South American Futbol (soccer) fan and recently decided to start following it again. I was living in Brazil when they won the World Cup. Crazy.
My wife enjoys Amazon Prime video that we get with Amazon Prime.

I switched from Optimum internet + cable to internet-only Fios. I hardly ever watched broadcast TV anyway and Verizon included 2 years of Netflix with the $79.99 offer. Spent at least 45 minutes on the phone with Optimum to cancel my service and the final person I talked to ("retention specialist") actually raised her voice at me claiming Verizon is lying about it being a non-contract deal and I'd end up paying more than double after a year.

Almost 4 years later I'm still paying $79.99 a month

Almost a year, end of this month...ME, FREE of any TV bills...love it!

CUT THE CORD.

Just wasted the better part of 4hours for a no-show cable guy last week.
Was 2.5 hours for a new cable hookup because of slow down load speeds...
We sat from 10:00am till 3:30 before it was working...what a joke...and the covid killed any local info phone jockies...all farmed out to east coast or Colorado?
Just to keep the 100year old lady comfortable... hard to teach the old dog new tricks.

Hulu Live, Netflix, Amazon Prime because it’s included with their membership. Then we’ll subscribe or unsubscribe to other services like HBOMax when a show we like comes back with a new season. Currently subbed to Apple+ until Ted Lasso is done 👍

Still the same bill

I've been getting junk mail from Optimum announcing an offer for their all digital fiber optic network (like FIOS), uhh no thanks
