Is this push up specific? Or is it basically saying in a general sense men who are more physically fit have better cardiovascular health? (Duh)

It is a “measure” of one’s health. So, instead of fancy testings (e.g. stress testing), a doctor can check one’s cardiac health by asking patient do pushups per protocol. I don’t see this replacing anything...but maybe a quick test that can be done in the office.

When I was young, someone told me about a push-up routine that I laughed off at first.
- Do 1 push-up - sit up - knees on ground -immediately go back into position to do pushups.
- Do 2 push-ups - same as with one
- Do 3 push-ups - same as with one
- Repeat this all the way up to 10 push-ups; then back pedal back down to 9, 8,7,6,5,4,3,2;1
100 push-ups total
Those of you in good shape might not be challenged. If you are trying to get to that point, this routine might help with your upper-body program.

May be more of a telling sign if someone can't do 10 then if you can do 40 or more. I would really hope every firefighter would be able to to at least 10.

I sadly agree even if you define a push-up as chest to elbow height. Many rightfully consider a pushup as down on chest, lift hands, and back up.

Sadly I don’t go to the gym but every morning after the shower I drop and do 20 push-ups or burpees, 20-30 squats, and a few quick stretches. I know this isn’t enough but at least it gets my heart-rate moving a bit and the blood circulating. Every bit helps I guess.

It’s always good to get your heart rate fired up early in the morning. Sure, a little more would be better but better than nothing. Something like this helps a lot and gets your metabolism firing all day ......

Some of this health crap is chicken little the sky is falling to an extreme.
A few days ago I clicked on a link that said eating blueberries could reduce a heart attack.
In link it said if you ate 7 ounces per day for 9 weeks it "could" reduce your risk.
WTF is going on these days? There is so much BS and misinformation out there it's getting crazy.
What's worse people are buying this crap and passing it on. OK I will eat more Blueberries than my stomach can take in every day at a high cost and hope I will not get a heart attack that I was never going to get anyway but media said I might get one.
This is just one example.

You seem to not understand difference between internet claims and actual medical studies.
But by all means go on with your rant.

That sounds interesting. I should try it.

When I stopped going to the gym, which is when we got our second kid, I started to do something like that, except 40-50 pushups and I don't remember how many squats...lots but I stopped them due to 1/being lazy and 2/having a knee hurt. I did keep the pushups and I still do them seven years later but not as often as I should. Not nearly as often as I should.
So, yes, I need to re-start the squats right away, even if it is just 20-30....

I think you’re being a bit dramatic. Just use common sense and work better foods into your diet as you are able and cut out the junk. Cutting out junk cold turkey alone will make a big difference.
You should already know that blueberries and other dark colored berries are very good for you in countless ways. It’s not BS.
I also started each day about 3 months ago with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar everyday within 30 min of waking. Google it. Good things will happen. My grandmother is 101 (looks and gets around like she’s 70) and she’s been doing it for 80 years.
Also, starting every other day with 20 min of fasted cardio has been helpful but increasing your strength training is MOST important after 40 yo.
