Members helping members

Anyone up for starting a parts delivery assistance program?
Wait! Read me out...
Suppose you want those awesome sliders or "insert part here" and shipping is almost equal to the cost of the item... A member that lives near the vendor can pick them up (Vendor pre-paid of course) and shuttles it to say within a two hour radius, then another member meets up and shuttles them a bit... See where this is going?

A good way to meet other members and help offset cost of shipping since we do NOT get subsidized like Amazon or the post office.
Obviously some gas offering would be part of the mix...
Stoopid idea or brilliant?
Feel free to comment... talk among yourselves!

Biggest thing is going to be who do you trust to go pick up parts that are completely paid for in a vehicle they will most likely fit on.

Suck it up and pay for the shipping. If you want something cheaper which can offset the cost of shipping wait until they do a sale usually around major holidays.

Lets say we reference the 2019 IRS standard mileage reimbursement rate of $0.58/mile, which is based on an annual study of the fixed and variable costs of operating an automobile. This includes: cost of gasoline, the average cost of maintaining a car, average wear-and-tear on a vehicle, and other factors the IRS doesn't disclose.

A 2 hour radius is a 4-hour round trip. Traveling at an average of 70 mph, that's a 280 mile trip. That's the equivalent of $162.40 to transport something that probably costs just as much, or much less, to ship with less effort by either party.

I could maybe see this working if you were just talking about the outside chance that someone is near one of the vendors and just happens to be coming to your area and has room to bring you something, but that's a long shot. Unless it's really bulky like a bumper, rack or sliders, shipping is not that bad and if it is bulky, getting someone to bring it to you will be hard. You still have to coordinate with the seller, and forum member doing the transport, so it's a PITA for everyone involved. And trying to arrange multiple people to bucket brigade something cross country would be a massive PITA.

We use to call this the TTORA Pony express back in the early 2000 Tacoma days, it worked with the boys in SE Texas and hill country area.

I would suggest for larger odd shaped shipping items

People modifying vehicles should have plenty of disposable income or you are doing it wrong IMO.

I could use a front bumper and winch.

TacomaWorld does this, calls it the TacomaWorld Express. I've helped deliver skids that made their way somewhere near a thousand miles. It's an awesome thing to do that takes a lot of trust and time. If you're desperate I'd join TW and ask them about having the Express help out a fellow Toyota owner.

Recognizing a fellow T4R member

Today I was at the Toyota dealer here in Pasadena when a friendly guy walked up to me and said, "Say, aren't you Desert Canyons on T4R.com?". He recognized my truck from my signature photo. I said yes, my name is Dave and held out my hand to shake. That was Chris from T4R, also a member here. I was amazed that we were able to connect that way.

I asked him if he's been out lately and he told me about driving through Anza Borrego Desert State Park last weekend. It started a whole conversation about Anza Borrego, kids and off road trips. I met his father too, who was there to pick him up. I gave him my card and asked him to call me anytime he wanted to go for a 4 wheeling trip.

Thanks for saying hello Chris. Now that's an example of friendly forum decorum.
