During the summer I had a hot start issue with my 3rz-fe so I just left it running.
My diesel Passat and van stay running during fueling.

When I lived in VT it was not uncommon to have some multi day stretches of below zero temperatures. When it’s -30°F half the reason for leaving it running is avoiding a restart, the other half is keeping the heat on.

Conversely, now living in a climate that routinely sees 115°F+ over the summer in urban areas and have left the car running a few times when filling up in the middle of the day to keep the AC cranked.

I've done it, once on accident, wife was driving, I got out to fill the car, she didn't turn it off lol Also, If its one of those 116 degree days here in SoCal ill leave the car on if i have passengers just so they aren't baking.

I do.

Because I learned my lesson one time.

Pulled into a gas station with my car on, doors open listening to music. Thought I put the car in park, TURNS OUT IT WAS IN REVERSE.

Car starts moving back. Door gets caught against the gas pump. DOOR BENDS LIKE A FOLDABLE BEACH CHAIR.

It's a rental car. I sit in a parking lot for 4-5 hours, from 10pm until 2ish am, get picked up in a tow truck.

NEVER. AGAIN.

Always turn the car off.
