Not sure if anyone has mentioned that you should go to a range that rents and try out a few different frames that fit comfortably in your hand, something that you will practice with and will actually carry.

yes you should have. it shoots so much easier in 9mm. the perceived 'snappy-ness' is so much less. the good thing is they are cheap.

90% of the time, I carry an M&P Shield 2.0 9mm with the Crimson Trace laser. I like the appendix carry position and it's real comfortable there. I can have just a t-shirt on and it's concealed real good. The other one I carry on occasion is the Springfield XDM 3.8 compact 9mm. That one is a little more bulky where it's a double stack. I'm wearing a jacket when I carry that one, so it's concealed better.

...as for a holster, a kydex style is a good choice. I found it gave me better piece of mind when I started carrying, where the handgun clicks in the holster and won't fall out. Just less to worry about while you're getting used to carrying.

I've carried a Glock 19 for over 20 yrs and never wanted for anything better.Always found it comfortable and easilly concealed.Even carrying on the NYC subway at rush hour everyday.I am now retired and moved out of the city so no more subway for me,yay! I recently got a Glock 43X and absolutely love it.When I was working, everybody was buying G26's for off duty carry.I never found it to be any better than the 19,but if they had the 43X back then I would have went for it.

The 26 isn't as deep and has a smaller grip so it's comfier to wear IWB if you have to sit on your ass/drive a lot.

Need to go with what you're most comfortable with. I generally carry my Agency G43. I generally prefer Sigs and love the P365 but it's a bit flawed in the design and I'm concerned about it firing if dropped due to the sear design...not an issue with my G43.

Also, I pretty much always carry in the pocket of the Berne ccw shorts and anything that's much bigger than a G43 or P365 won't fit. I run the Novx polymer ammo to save weight and carry an extra mag. I hit my target so I'm not too concerned with overpenetration.

I'd approach it from a different direction - how important is the "concealed" part of the equation?

For example, I'm a college prof and carry legal on campus. But some of my colleagues would certainly freak out if they found out about it. So I must be very, very discreet.

My first CC gun was a sig P238 and I like that very much.

But the campus carry I prefer now is a Ruger LCP. Very small, very light, very discreet. But I am sacrificing distance accuracy and capacity for small size.

For around town carry I prefer my Ruger LC9S, which is more accurate than I am at distance. It's much bigger than the LCP but still a compact.

I think that if you're sitting down next to the same person at meetings regularly, or walking by them in the halls regularly, or presenting in front of them regularly, it's important to be very careful.

Walking by a random person on the street, not so much.

I've been looking at people since I got my permit (7 years ago) and I've spotted a total of 4 people carrying
- 1 guy walking up stairs and his revolver handle was sticking out of his shorts
- 1 guy at Arby's and his shirt pulled up showing the grip
- 1 women at Home Depot carrying a big semi under a skin tight shirt - she wasn't even trying
- 1 old guy like me that was printing I think

You sir, are a unicorn and I applaud you exercising your 2A right.

I actually did not think someone like you existed given where you work.

I expect many of your coworkers would have you terminated (or maybe you have tenure?) if they knew what an extremist you are.
