I haven't rifle hunted in many years. But tis year, life got in the way of archery season. So off we went with the rifles. set up camp on Friday. The wind blew pretty good all day Friday and Saturday. Setting up the wall tent in the wind can be a *****. Anyway we cut fire wood for the stove, and I broke the only good chain I had for my saw. Lack of planning on my part, had us with a marginal amount of wood for the stove Oh well, my bad. Windy on Saturday, but we got into some great country, just no elk. Saturday night it started snowing. By morning we had about 4 inches in camp. By noon the white stuff was up almost to my knees, and blowing and drifting. We decided discretion was the better part of valor, and broke camp. I couldn't see the road more than a few feet in front of the truck for the 5 or so miles out to the main road. It's still snowing.

Deer and elk opens this weekend. Done a few nights of scouting and have only seen small fork bucks. Have a place with tons of white tail does but haven't seen a buck yet. Hopefully I can fill at least one of my tags this weekend. (white tail doe tag, and general deer tag)

2 mile carry back to the 4Runner. He got a little heavy haha. Typically for deer I gut/skin them, then carry the body and head out. For elk I quarter them out and go. I typically am at least 1.5 miles from a road, usually more.

I try not to carry the bones out. So I de-bone everything, with an eye for how I'm going to butcher it when I get home. I cut up my own, wrap and freeze it myself. So doing some of the work while gutting it, makes sense. The bones are a lot of weight that don't make for a good dinner.

I do all my own butchering. Especially going to this year with all the CWD around. Don't want to get some ground meat from the butcher that has mix ins from someone else who didn't test their deer.

Logged 10 miles on foot Saturday. Saw a bunch of does and one small buck. Took my Daughter out Sunday to a ranch we can hunt to fill my doe tag. Saw a bunch of deer but didn't like the shot I would have made if I missed (unknown background) so I passed. On our way our we saw about 25 deer on the neighboring property. We were watching two bucks fighting for a while until a 3rd much bigger buck came running from the trees too fight one of the smaller bucks and ran him off. I stopped at the other ranch house and knocked on the door and got permission to come back and do some hunting there. Going back Tuesday to get set up for a buck. Might fill my doe tag who knows. All I know is the Sunday hunt with my Daughter was the most fun hunt I've been on yet. Lots of memories on that one.

Went chukar hunting in the range behind my house on the west, both sides. Saw no birds, but did see about 45-50 antelope in seven separate groups (about eight bucks); one group of a dozen female deer.

Thanks! I'm pretty stoked with him! Still have an elk tag and a doe tag! Probably going to pass on Elk this year considering I still have about 3/4 of my Antelope in the freezer still. Hoping to fill doe tag closer to Thanksgiving.

Hate hunters! Never understood this weird desire to kill animals out of sport. It's so stupid!
