Hi all. I have been using a metal detector since 1987 and have had a ball. Using a detector is like Forest Gump said best, "Like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get." I love the thrill of the hunt. Nothing gets your blood pumping like digging a hole and seeing the glint of an old silver coin in the dirt. Went to my favorite spot two days ago that has seen a gazillion other people detecting over the years and it gave up four silver coins to me. All dimes, but silver none the less. Plus it is a great way to get some great exercise as well.
I'm a gold prospector, hence my user name, so you can easily guess what I like to detect for the most!
I have 4 very good metal detectors.
That being said most of my gold was found via manual labor and where I live there's no natural gold to be found, I have to travel several hours to get to gold bearing ground, so most of my metal detecting turns up relics, jewelry, and coins....and of course as usual when metal detecting much more trash than treasure!!
Where I live there are Civil War relics to be found, very rarely an old Spanish shipwreck coins when hurricanes pass by or hit the area which churns up the ocean and either wash shipwreck treasure inshore or uncovers some, also this area is a tourist location so the beaches offer the good possibly of finding some nice jewelry if you get there before other detectorists!!
I have been seriously thinking of getting a metal detector for a while now. I tend to be very observant finding old structures on my hikes so i think it would be super fun.
Problem is like everything else i do i go all out and boy can these metal detectors cost a lot.
I got my son a metal detector for Christmas.
Wife got me one for Christmas but it didn't arrive for a few weeks.
Then I thought it was the box for my sons. So I didn't know I had it until 2 weeks ago.
So now my son and daughter use them around our property.
I’ve never been metal detecting, but I recently came across a YouTuber called Aquachigger. He’s always detecting for civil war era relics or checking rivers for things people lose. It has sucked me in, and I’m definitely considering getting a detector. I recommend checking him out.
