a noise maker will cause animals to not sleep in/on your vehicles.
it works for me. these repellent animal beepers do work. plug into the power outlet in the vehicle. uses low power.beeps like every 10 sec..

Keep the cat around for rats. Maybe you will make a new friend.
until that feral cat has a bunch of babies in your car..

my s4 had 4 baby feral kittens die under the hood of my car 2 summers ago when i drove it and they mustve died from heat exposure.
the rotting smell never went away and i had to buy all new plastic underskirting for the car.

this was in peoria where the car was parked for 2 weeks

Well that's depressing.

One of our (many litters) kittens, about 6 months old, had ridden all the way to the store under the hood of the car (older 70's style you could climb in to work on.) And I had another adult cat that had climbed in to get warm, dad started up the engine, and the fan belt took off his tail and scalped his butt. He never did go out hunting in the fields again...
Jesus man. That would mess me up too I don't blame your father. Scalped butt is less then ideal.

I am with Mutant138 - I love cats. I purchased a shop that came with two feral cats. I now have four feral cats that all have been fixed and are now my friends. Usually 3 of the 4 stay in the shop at night. They sleep where ever they want including on my cars. My friends think I am crazy to allow this but it really does not bother me. Knowing that they are safe at night is what matters to me.

During colder months give your hood a tap to give any cats sleeping under the hood chance to get out

One of our cars made a 3-legged cat once. And another time another cat bailed out from under one of the vehicles while on the interstate. That also did not end well.

I live on the top floor of our building overlooking the river. There was a black and white young male cat living under the bridge and it would go past the building everyday during its hunts. Then one day, I saw another resident lady catch the thing and try to cuddle it as she carried it home. The thing was clawing and biting the crap out of her. She took it home anyway and posted on the community portal that she found someones cat and it looked hungry. I let her know it was feral, had been living under the bridge, and she may want to get it checked for rabies. Don't need no foaming-at-the-mouth neighbors.

Don’t blame feral cats for being cats. It’s dumb-ass humans who didn’t neuter their pets and let them outside to roam and breed, that created this problem. A lot of “ferals” weren’t born in the wild but are actually former house cats that were abandoned. And they can be friendly.

If you want to be part of a solution try contacting an animal rescue group in your area that could help Trap, Neuter, and Release them (TNR program). That way they’re fixed, will live out their typically short lives, breed no more, and will keep your under-hood rodents at bay.

If you want to repel them from your truck try the mothball-in-a-paper bag method. They don’t like the smell and the large paper grocery bag stuffed on top of the wheel takes up space. Just remember to remove the bags each morning. As for orange oil, depending on the formulation and how much you use, it might act like a solvent on your tires or rust-proofing coating.

Trap and euthanize. Feral cats are pests and decimate bird populations. They should be classed with wild pigs and coyotes.

I meant that about the cat. My dad grew up on a farm, around animals and life/death. I got my appreciation and love for animals from him. He would care for any of them that got hurt, and that cat ended up living for years after that incident. But always stayed close to home, and away from vehicles. The fur on his butt eventually grew back, but it took awhile.

You are not wrong. Australia was having a pretty big issue with it.

But, euthanization isn't necessary. It's just more cost effective.

Trap, sterilize, and release/or find homes. They don't live long lives as ferals.

Culling the herd is a bit extreme they don't breed like hogs.

Our Cat and the Owl

I absolutely enjoyed everyday with my wife's cat when she was with us. I used to play with her when I went to pick up my (soon to be wife) when we went out on dates. She eventually died of kidney failure when she was almost 19. Her last year I was giving her lactated ringers solution under the skin 1-2 times a day because of kidney failure to keep her hydrated. She also had breast cancer. I build her a very nice casket out of 3/4" mahogany and buried her as far down as I could dig with a shovel. Very sad day.
I have a long scar on my arm to remind me of when we used to rough-house.

Because we have a nursery I put up a realistic plastic owl with a head that moves. It has a solar cell on the top of the head. Every so often it clicks and the head moves maybe half a turn. Spooky. I put it up on a 10 foot piece of 1.5 " plastic conduit so it sticks out above our dwarf trees.

One day our cat was in the window and the owl's head moved. She lost it. She leapt from the window running for cover.

We had a mother and 4 kittens roaming around our area a few years ago and when I put the owl up for the season they moved on. It wasn't my intent to make them go it was just the consequences of putting the owl up I believe.

Just a suggestion. You can get the owl from Amazon.

A neighbor has a feral cat that hangs around their place, because they put food out for it. I like it because it kills the rats that live in the bushes near and on my property. The rat population has been greatly reduced. It seems to deter the tree rats (squirrels) too.

I hope our resident feral cat lives a long life.
