That said when we were kids my sister had a thing about being able to walk up to feral animals and pick them up. Cats, dogs, rabbits, whatever.
Me personally if I have a feral cat I will leave it alone if its not messing with anything. If I think a cat may be in trouble over night during winter I will try and help as well. But otherwise they are completely out doors.
