Traveling during COVID-19

I'm officially done with California and their socialist policies and have several job opportunities lined up in in a couple of states where I already have family members settle in. My family will be traveling by vehicle and staying at their extra homes while I do my job interviews. We understand the risk and are prepare to make limited contact to protect our self and everyone on the road. My questions is is there any restrictions on travel across state lines and what should I expect? I know the Fed and CDC does not have any travel bans within the US but will certain states turn us around due to their "Stay at home" order?

You are an American and you have right to free, unrestricted passage throughout the country.

Don't expect all of the constabulary along your route to respect your Constitutional rights, though.

Just tell the cops you're illegals or homeless. They seem exempted from all the quarantine rules.

Yea, don't tell them you are a citizen who pays taxes for sure. Some states like Texas have roadblocks. Your question did not say where you're headed.

Heading to Oklahoma and then up to Iowa, going to be a 2 week trip and if the interviews go good my family is going to stay there and I'll fly back to close out the house and move all our stuff. Hope I don't get stop in Texas.

I recently drove from the Chicago area to Buffalo and back.

The only thing I found different were that many of the rest areas were closed (in the various states I traveled through) so one had to stop at a gas station / truck stop to use the bathroom (as most restaurants were closed, except the drive through window).

Additionally, the toll roads were typically electronic tolling only, with no toll booths being manned.

Otherwise, the traveling seemed relatively normal.

Iowa is relatively respectful of personal freedoms. They are getting pummeled by COVID outbreaks in immigrant meat packing communities. Don’t lick people who don’t habla English.

Oklahoma is “Safer At Home”. Guess you won’t be, but generally good folks. Pack a gun if in any of the larger towns for safety. Pack a gun to fit in if in the smaller towns.

I will say keeping kids from getting fomite exposure during COVID travel would be difficult. Bathrooms will be disasters for disease transmission- lots and lots of virus in fecal material.

Feds have been recommending the National Governors Association’s site to TRY to keep track of the constantly changing state level direction- CORONAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW - National Governors Association.

Good luck, stay healthy.

Spoke w/ a friend in NM near the TX border. He told me TX is not stopping eastbound vehicles. Sounds like it is only Louisiana - westbound drivers.

Good luck with the job.

I can back that up; just flew to TX for work, Louisiana is a hot spot so they want folks traveling from there to quarantine.

Was also in Iowa a few weeks back and aside from restaurants being closed or takeout only, no issues getting around.

Have not experienced roadblocks or any issues traveling to date.

Just carry a few containers of wipes, wear a mask for personal contact, 6' or more distance and be a bit paranoid about germs has worked for me so far. If there's no wipes available you can use a washcloth and rubbing alcohol.

Be well, good luck with the interviews!

Thanks guys for all your advice and information. We plan on making as little stops as possible just for fuel restroom breaks and are prepared with face mask, hand sanitizers, and gloves.

Be prepared that a lot of rest stops are going to be closed and restaurants are drive-thru only.

Lot of truckers saying finding a place to go to the bathroom is hard.

I just did an in person interview @11:00 this morning. I'm not waiting to be re-called from furlough plus this position is an office one only 23 miles from my house ,not 59 like my "current"one. Good luck hope it works out for you!!

Thanks...I didn't lose my job just got tired of the policies here in California and a couple of spots became open within my company so this is the best time to make a move. And due to the slow housing market right now the buyer has more power, another plus!
