drug car and the poops

so...a relative borrowed another relatives subaru for 1 day...turned into 8.Troopers could not do anything since it is family and the car was "loaned" to her. Last night I was asked to help go get it back...it was left for us to pick up i a parking lot as per agreement ( long story). It was totally trashed...burn holes and big stains in seats. all kinds of garbage inside..dented body panels..front bumper loose and zip tied on in places....filthy in and out. I volunteered to drive it home since I am the most mechanically inclined...and oldest.
Drove like sh*t...vibration...clunks on bumps..This is all new...as I went help buy the car 2 months ago...2008, 80k on clock...and I drove it for a week to make sure it was good for gandkids. It was a well maintained well detailed car with zero issues. It had almost no oil on dipstick...that surprised me. came back with almost 2k more miles. This totally blew us away...no one in family suspected girl of having issues...not her mom...sisters..no body. If we did it would not have been loaned out to her.

SO the QUESTIONS....
anyway....car stunk like crazy...I got home and had to take a major dump as soon as I got out of the car.
Well IM an old fart..I dont know...but will meth fume residue give you the sh*ts ?
I wonder if I tell the troopers I suspect car had had meth smoked in it..if they would let their dogs sniff it and let me know. ?

Families....always at least one bad apple

Could've been worse... you could've let them buy the 4Runner right?

Another reason not to let people borrow your cars. Are you sure this person didn't seem off beforehand? The whole interior needs to be stripped to get it back from meth spec. To be honest it sounds like it will never be the same.

Hey boss,

I am very sorry to hear that you've had such a horrific experience. I cannot imagine how I would have reacted had I been in that situation. Hopefully the situation gets better.

I work in substance use and addiction counseling, so I have seen how hard it can be. I see you're in Alaska. Is your family member there, too? Do you have the resources to try to make things better? If you don't feel comfortable answering any of that stuff, feel free to shoot me a private message!

To answer your question about your BMs & what to do, first of all, I have no clue if a meth smell gives you the shits. I have pretty severe ADHD and take Adderall, an amphetamine, on a daily basis, but I don't have a problem like that. However, sometimes I can feel sick on it, especially if I drink coffee.

Now, if you want to get rid of the smell, chances are you will have to detail or deep clean the carpets. It may be worth it to replace it. I don't know if that's your forte, or if the carpet is even replaceable, but that may be the best move.

Frankly, I would have a professional replace your interior because the residue can seep into your fabrics and make you sick, dizzy, or worse. I would also have them chlorine bomb the vehicle/air system. Whatsmore, you do not know if there was any contact with Fentanyl, which is EXTREMELY hazardous if you come into contact with it. Take serious caution.

Finally, under ZERO circumstances should you go to the police. You could potentially catch a charge if they were to find you in possession of a vehicle with a controlled substance. Even if you say "it's my family member/friend", they probably won't give a darn. That's me just being frank.

What you could do is take your family member to small claims court or host an intervention. Chances are, if you experienced such a loss/damage, they may be at the point where they need serious help. Regardless, since it's a domestic issue, it would make sense to me that you could sue them in a smaller court for damages. HOWEVER, if you don't have it in writing or have proof, it could come back to bite you.

I hope that info was of some use to you. Things will get better!

thanks...yes the distant family memeber lives in town too...I say distant because it is a relative of my daughter in law
her mom and aunt want to step in to get her help...but because of the "offenders" age they cant drag her to rehab...this caught near everyone off gaurd...near everyone says...wow never would have guessed she had a drug issue...however...ive been saying it since I met her and said to many family memebers...this chick is playing you all....fell on deaf ears..till now...but im not gonna do the ...I told you so....they know now I was not far off in my thoughts and suggestions.
I spent several hours cleaning today...just garbage and spaying things down wth lysol..maybe not the best...like door handles steering wheel...anything you would touch for now. we were going to take it to a detail shop...but now not now...so Ill get cleaners and do it for them.
As far as getting her to pay for any of it....not gonna happen..unemployed ( not do to the virus) on food stamps and stuff. Bounces from one family house to another...yet they said they had no clue.
also...we were told by another friend...dont have troopers inspect for drug smells...it can be a slippery slope...now if we had reported the car stolen and troopers grabbed the car and they did the sniff tests on their own..no big deal for us.
But we were not able to have the car reported stollen...we checked when it reached day 5...because we admit we "loaned it to a family member"

Meth gets into everything. That's why they used to test houses for it back in CO, but that's mostly the cooking process.

Unlikely that smoking would have the same effect.

Are you SURE that the car was pristine before being handed over to the tweakers? Seems like you might be in the middle a dispute that you don't want to be in.

Finally, I've lost count of how many times I have suddenly needed to take a massive shit while driving.

Edit: DO NOT GET POLICE INVOLVED. Do you know what are the most common things people with drugs in their cars say?

1. These aren't my drugs!
2. This isn't my car!

yes it was pristine...I went with my son to look at it and buy it just two months ago...I drove it for the first while to make sure it was good and reliable for my grandkids ( who dont drive yet but soon)...it had hardly any use until it was "borrowed"...I live on the same rural property...it sat outside my living structure that im building ( 2 car garage with apartment above) so I saw it sitting every day.

I don’t know the answer to your question… but I would be extremely hesitant to get troopers or law enforcement involved for any reason.

You might get lucky with someone helpful, but it’s not worth the risk. All they will do is asking a bunch of questions and nothing positive is going to come of it. You are going to want to protect the girl, and they are going to want to talk to her. Worst case scenario, you bring them a vehicle that has drugs in it, and you end up getting charged.

I’ll just leave this here for your benefit.

Maybe just set it on fire and collect the insurance money? lol j/k, insurance fraud will land you in more trouble.

Seriously though, I'd be checking every nook and cranny to make sure nothing was left/hidden anywhere that could get you or a family member in trouble down the road.

Knew a guy who worked service at a dealership. Customer bought a car (dealer bought it at auction), brought the car back saying none of the windows roll down. Pulled the door covers, and the doors were all stuffed full with bags of marijuana. So much for their used car inspection process I guess. Anyway, that's what prompted my recommendation above given the circumstances.

Best of luck to you and your family.

This! ^^^

Even if there's nothing stashed in it somewhere, I'd still be worried about some cop's dog hitting on it because of the smell. Of course, I'm in southern California where we have to pass through Customs/Border Patrol check points pretty often.

Holy smokes! (Pun intended)

1) lesson learned.

2) lots of people are saying don't get the police involved… But a polite inquiry phone call might be helpful, especially since you tried to report it stolen a few days ago. If you spoke to the right person, told him it was borrowed and came back in a destroyed condition, that you tried to report it stolen, and that you think there might be drugs in it now that you've got it back, they might be willing to listen and do a search for you. It IS taking a chance, but the rewards down the line could be worth it. I guess it depends on the police in your area…

Hello constable, I may have methamphetamine in this car that I don't technically own, but it's in my current possession.

Could you have one of your deputies come over and take a looksie?

Yes, my prints are all over it, why do you ask?

Yeah, perhaps not the best idea.

FWIW, I have participated in exactly these kind of public service searches by police officers. In my neck of the woods, these situations are handled professionally and without any drama as just another law enforcement call for service. The story is unfortunately too common and this doesn’t pass the smell test in nearly any criminal court.

If you are 50yoa guy with a clean look and clear record, this is a pro forma request. If you are worried, either call up to the PD ahead of time, explain the situation on a recorded line and go forward or just consult a local criminal attorney.

More likely the agency will say “no way” if tell them about the chemical smell, however. A dog that has $15k investment of tax payers funds is not something that they want to endanger unnecessarily. If you do want a search, let the car air out, windows down, for a few days. That is just respectful to the poor dog.
