Frankly I never learned shit in school and ended up having to google everything, but I do feel bad for all these kids who missed out on the social interaction.

2. What has been the most difficult part of this experience?
3. What one thing would you change that would offer the most benefit?

I can tell you that it is a wonderful experience. It has been a great opportunity for me to get involved in my own self-organisation. I am wildly pleased that my child is able to do all the tasks on her own. But he was poorly developed in creative thinking, he is more capable of the exact school subjects. I realised that my child is not developing enough in a creative way. At some points, I had to switch on my own ingenuity and help him with creative tasks. For example, my son needed to make a presentation on his small school project on astronomy, so I discovered an online service for creating presentations Loveslides. Overall, my child and I have started to appreciate our time more and manage it more wisely. We have learned the benefits, most likely because we don't live in a flat, but in a private home.

I have used multiple platforms (Zoom, Kami, Google Hangouts, Proctoredu) and it is no replacement for in-person instruction. I do agree that each district should pick one platform and stick with it, and my guess is that there are some pretty smart IT people working on new platforms that will be better for educational use. At least I hope so....
My fellow teacher says that subjectively the level of knowledge assimilation decreases by at least 30% when kids have to shift to online education.

1. I cannot say, unfortunately, that something is going better, the kids not leaning much.
2. The distance learning is not taken seriously by small kids, they do get distracted often when at home, there is no interaction with teacher comparing to when they are in the classroom. Also spending too much time looking at the screen is bad for their eyesight. Parents have to be by their side all the time helping them.
3. Most educational institutions were not prepared for distance learning and they need to work on it.

If this distance learning is continued in the fall Millions of American children may be so behind in math and reading that they will never catch up to what would have been.

I am not blaming anyone, especially not teachers or parents but I think we all need to be honest about what these stay at home orders are doing to the children.

And we should ask ourselves is it really right to sacrafice the young to save a tiny percentage of the old?

Keep in mind that just today University of MN published a report estimating that over 50 million (up to 15% of US pop) have ALREADY been infected. What does that say about the death rate? Well at a minimum it is much much lower than the crude fatality numbers.

So there is a very good chance all this damage is behing done to children and 1) the virus will still spread and 2) the virus is very dangerous but nothing like the crude death numbers imply.
.
I agree with Brian SD. I think so much of this is over the top and the kids are paying the price. As Brian says, over 50 million have been infected yet the media and gov’t have been silent on natural immunity, something we all learned early on in our 8th grade science class. The obsession over the vaccine is mind blowing and the utter disregard for natural immunity tells me that it’s driven by money. It doesn’t help that many of the mainstream news media outlets are sponsored by the big pharma vax makers. I blame the media for ramping up the fear on this virus. I had Covid so I refuse to get the jab. I would have gotten the jab if I never got covid tho. Now that we have a vax NOTHING should be shut down, especially schools! Lastly, thumbs up to the recent trucker convoy in Canada to protest the political tyranny that Covid has brought to us. I stand with them for freedom!

Our schools are shutting down this coming Wednesday, too many teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, janitors out sick.

With multiple respiratory infections floating around now, it’s not just COVID knocking people out but it’s still the majority.

Can’t just look at deaths but economic impact. Too many business can’t keep their doors open at the moment.
