Epoxy flooring

Cool project for the summer. Total cost, $565 & 8 hours labor for a 600 sq/ft 3 car garage. Already painted the walls & will be upgrading the lighting later.

I was looking into doing this to my garage also. I was looking at the rustoleum product though.

Never used Rustoleum, but I'd do a little research first. I used Armorpoxy Armorclad, but there are several really good 100% solids epoxys out there to fit your budget/needs.

I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Your floor looks great. I was also thinking of using the Rustoleum kit. The stuff you used is pretty pricy...but I suppose it may be worth it. Gunna do some more research before taking on the task. Front what I understand, prep work determines 99% of your final outcome for this job.

Looks great, nice work man!

Did mine in my last house, looked excellent and held up well, to include running studded tires on the surface. For those considering it, as was already mentioned, research heavily, choose your products wisely and no big-box off-the-shelf kits, you'll regret it (and yes, prep is critical -- and ensure you use a texturing material for 'footing'). I used a company out of MI, don't recall the name but the product was excellent and the job was easy.

I'm completing the garage in my current place next year but I'm having the floors done by a professional group this go-round. I want my garage/floors looking like a BMW or Porsche dealer service area when all is said and done [high-end] and the pros have stripping & etching equipment, materials and expertise that I can't match no matter how well of a job I do.

Sample from my old place using a self-applied kit:

I did the rustoleum kit from lowes. Overall, pretty easy to use. Did it all in a day, just hammered it out.

I will say that his looks better than mine. But then again I was rushed and didn't spread the fleck-stuff out very well. Also I now think of how mine looks...4 years later.

Overall, on the rustoleum kit, first off, buy the kit a few days before you do the work. READ the instructions...then go back and buy all the crap you then need . Then follow the instructions and go. Pretty easy. I let mine sit for a week after I painted it. This was back before I moved in and I had to be out of town for a week, so I knocked it all out and let it dry. Just a month ago, I found a small spot...less than the side of a dime, where the paint had come up. This is years after parking on it everyday. Or working on the floor, etc.

Typically I don't drag my jack sideways on it. Also same with jack stands. For stands, I put a piece of wood down under them.

Usually after a large project or something, I'll sweep then mop it. Makes it look nearly new again.

I did the Rustoleum in 2011 in my small beach house garage. I used a two car kit in a one car garage. It looks like No Names picture above. Still. I think it cost less than $100 including the squeegee and extra cleaners. It's definitely worth what I paid and the labor invested.

Dawudih's floor looks like a $3000 professional job. Amazing.

Thanks,
There are several good 100% products, mine is Armorpoxy's Armorclad. It's the stuff dealerships & warehouses use. Probably overkill, but I figured this would be my house for the next 15 years so why not.

I just had my garage floor epoxied. Love it.

I contracted with a company who did it for about $2k and has a 20 year warranty. Pretty pricey, but after seeing my friend's garage floor come up after 8 months, I went professional. Already had them come back to fix a couple things I felt were sub-par.

The off-the-shelf stuff is garbage and you will end up being frustrated. Go with a quality product and, as stated above, "Its all in the Prep."

That being said, after you have it done, it gives your garage a whole different feel and, obviously, a whole different look. It is a great way to go. All your neighbors will be jealous.

Ditto on the prep work. Don't skimp or take shortcuts or it will lift/peel. Use the flakes wisely. The parts that don't get them will be very slippery when wet.

So im confused about something. You dont appear to have any expansion joints like i have in my garage.

Did you never have them or were they filled with the epoxy job?

If OP doesn't respond there are over 100,000 posts on garage flooring here:

Flooring - The Garage Journal Board

OP says he got a Garage Journal discount on his product so there's that too.

Sorry for the late reply; spent a couple of weeks in Colorado & there's no internet or telephones up there.
I've never seen a house or garage with expansion joints in Texas; maybe because it's built using a solid slab reinforced with fiberglass, rebar & high tension steel cables, but I can't say for sure.
The company did ask if I had grooves/joints though & they did recomend leaving them alone but did have a filler available.
