Left Milk In Car

So today I got to thinking about my old car. I left milk in the trunk for about a week in the June heat. It took over a year for 75% of the smell to go away.

I went to the store after removing the milk and going to the store and I remember a lady walking by and saying “.... what in the hell is that?!?” She was at least 15 yards away.

Yeah, it was that bad. The smell was a mixture of a very bad date after a night at the strip club and baking soda. Nothing got the smell out. APCs, baking soda, scrubbing with soap, etc.

What would you have used in this situation to get the smell out? Have you ever done something like this?

You can try Ozium spray, it has worked well for years. Empty the can in the trunk and keep it closed for a day. Might want to get 2 and do passenger area also.. After it sits for a day, open everything up for a while. The smell of Ozium is probably not good for you as it has a lot of ozone in it. If that doesn't work, rent an ozone machine and leave it in the car for a couple of days.
After the smell is reduced get a couple of pop can cardboard flats and buy a big can of the cheapest ground coffee you can find. Put the flats in the trunk and interior and dump the coffee in the flats. Again let it sit for a day or so.
The Ozium or ozone generators are used in funeral homes and hospitals in the need of purifying the air. The coffee grounds also have an amazing capacity to absorb odors. I worked at a food plant and a semi came in with a foul smelling trailer and was rejected by QC. The driver got a couple cans of coffee, spread them around, left sit overnight. He swept them out the next morning and the truck passed the sniff test.

When I was a teenager, my parents left me and my older brother home while they went out of town. I was told to take the cat to the vet, so off we went in my Mom's brand-new Ford Tempo. One the way there, the cat erupted from every orifice of his body- he peed, pooped and barfed all at once. I was laughing my ass off as my brother was holding the cat at arms length while the cat proceeded to ruin the car. We took the seats out, filled up the floor with water and and whole bottle of Pine-Sol, closed it up and let it sit for a couple of days. Once we cleaned it all out it seemed fine, but anytime the sun would heat up the interior, it smelled horrible. My Dad ended up having to sell the car because it was so overpowering. Can't help you with the milk stench, but I know Pine-Sol doesn't work.

At least you can tell people that you found a way to make the Ford Tempo worse than it already was.
