I have never hit an animal. On a couple of occasions an animal struck my vehicle.
A big difference in deductibles.

Unless you are in a very unusual state, there is no difference in hitting wildlife or wildlife hitting you in terms of deductibles.

Wildlife accidents are covered under the comprehensive portion of your insurance. this means that your rates will not increase following this type of accident.

You raise a very important point however about deductibles. Each portion of the insurance has its own deductible so you can have a high deductible (say $1k) for liability (those things that are your fault) and $100 for the comprehensive side (fire/theft, wildlife, glass - i.e. things you can't avoid).

Having a low deductible on the comp side is cheap. For me (YMMV) the difference from a $1k to a $100 deductible is about $26 a year. For the 4R price range car it would probably be $50 a year. To reduce the deductible on the liability side is expensive - several hundred a year, but the lower deductible on the comp side pays for itself the first time you need a new windshield.

I figured that I need a new windshield every 5 years or so. For my car, the windshield is about $500. With the $1k deductible, the windshield costs me $500. With the $100 deductible it costs me $130 (5x$26) plus $100, so $230.

Deer are good and bad.
Gives a good excuse to start in on some t4r mods... front bumper, new lift, bigger tires... yada, yada, yada.

Was the start of my 'rabbit hole'

Damn deer.

Loud exaust and loud mudd tires help to scare animals and small children out of the road.

Heck yeah!

Totally agree that this is a good excuse to do some mods. I was looking at a t4r with front end damage to repair and drive and this was one of the bada$$ mods I found. Maybe a great start to a great rig.

Thanks for pointing out that insurance company technique for using aftermarket parts, @ cb1111. I just looked at my policy. It lists Vehicle Manufacturer Replacement Parts for Collision and Comprehensive. I pay an extra $70 per year for that coverage.

You need to find a shop that is unable to find aftermarket parts.

Send me a PM and I'll give you a few suggestions.

I whacked 3 deer while I was living in Gaithersburg - so been there, done that. I had GEICO then too.
I already took it to fitzgerald auto collision located in gaithersburg.

Hopefully my 4runner turns out good. I will let you know after I get my car back. Its already been a week and they said it is going to take a week more so hopefully they do a good job otherwise ill be pissed.

I do want that but mine is a 2013 so it wont work. I am working on getting the supercharger installed in a a year or after I pay off my 4runner.

Is that the one next to the Toyota dealer (behind the transmission shop?). If so, they used to be good. I had an Acura RL fixed there (after a deer "incident") and they did a good job.

Don't accept anything less than perfect. Make sure all of the fasteners are correct, all of the underhood stickers are there and you can't see anything wrong at all. Make sure the headlights are properly aligned (they won't be) and you'll need to get the headlights done at the dealer.

Yup its right next to kings vw and the toyota/subaru/hyundia(fitzgerald) center.
I will check it before I take it. IF you google the address I gave you its the address to the repair shop. Hoping they do a good job, I will give an update when I get my truck back. Already missing it

They did a great job on the Acura but I think they may have changed ownership as they weren't Fitzgerald then but if they kept the same people then you should be good.

which bumper grille bull bar would you go with?

CBI 5th Gen 4Runner Front Bumper 2010-2013 [T4R5-FB] - $1,249.99 : Pure 4Runner, 5th Gen 4Runner Mods and 4Runner Accessories

ARB Deluxe Bull Bar - Toyota 4Runner 2010-13 [3421520] - $1,235.95 : Pure 4Runner, 5th Gen 4Runner Mods and 4Runner Accessories

Demello 4Runner 3 HOOP Bumper 2010-2019 [DO-10-16-4RUNNER-3HOOP-BUMPER] - $1,650.00 : Pure 4Runner, 5th Gen 4Runner Mods and 4Runner Accessories

Im leaning towards the ARB but I don't want the bars that wraps around the headlight.

You'll have to upgrade your suspension with one of these bumpers. They are quite heavy.

The ARB is about 200lbs. The stock bumper is about 30.

I thought the 4runner shocks are good since this is meant for a truck its basically a tacoma with a back end. Cant wait until tomorrow. My 4runner should be ready. Cant believe I got this in may and its only only been 2 months and already a deer hit it yet I never have hit a deer with my previous cars. So far the customer service from that fitzgerald collision shop sucks since she told me she would call me back but never calls me back and its been 2 times that happened. I just wanted to ask her if my car was ready since I dropped it of on monday the 6th. I called on last friday and today. I mean she talked okay to me but she told me she would call me regarding my suv and never heard back from her so I have to be the one to call her. I just hope they do a good job.

Just my 2 cents, I like how the CBI bumper follows the lines of the truck and tucks closer in to the front.
