CCleaner

CCleaner was a good program utility, the latest free update is taking out passwords in all forums, Amazon, ebay, etc. too bad.

Yes. Everybody needs to use a password manager and unique passwords for each site.

Password managers that are built into browsers are worse than useless an leak like a sieve.

Wasn't CCleaner been banned by Apple at one time for nefarious activities?

I would avoid it.

Microsoft banned CCleaner last year from its support forums, though they didn't say why. But Microsoft does not recommend using any registry cleaner and they have never developed one themselves. Registry cleaners are not usually harmful, just largely unnecessary on today's operating systems.

CCleaner won't remove passwords or autofill information if you uncheck the option under the browser(s). Most features CCleaner provides can be done without any software, although it does require more steps.

Not sure about Apple and MS, but CCleaner was hacked a short while after Piriform (the prior owner) was bought by AVAST (best known for free anti-virus software) in early 2017. Sometime in September of 2017, the company noticed suspicious activity and stated "CCleaner v5.33 and CCleaner Cloud v1.07 contained a two-stage backdoor capable of running code received from a remote IP address on affected systems”.

Its reputation never recovered from that and, quite frankly, AVAST didn't help by adding frequent nags to upgrade to the paid version, being sneaky about some of their settings and installing AVAST unless you dug through menus to uncheck a box.

Well, this post is depressing. CCleaner was my go-to program. I guess I fell asleep on this one. Good post, thanks for sharing everyone

I didn't heard of that but I am not surprised. Classical Microsoft: we are not able to develop strong software but we will not allow you to improve your system and delete our useless apps...
