Rocky Mountain National Park

Colorado fires. Well the beetle kill trees are on fire. Our neighborhood is on fire.
Never seen a fire move so fast. But lots of fuel.It hasn't really burned for 100+ yrs, and beetle killed standing trees are like dry match sticks. So we all knew if it ever got started, it would be unstoppable. The fire is racing through and breeching the Continental divide now Threatening Estes Park as well. It's likely that most of Rocky Mountain National Park will burn. No way to stop that.
The EMS people are doing their best. Heroic efforts by all those dedicated people. The waiting and wondering is hard. I'm one who just gets in a gets something done. But the best thing to do right now is not get in the way of the people who know what they are doing.
Oh guess I should say where we are. We are in the Columbine Lake subdivision just west of Grand Lake ,Colorado

Got the call this morning. Our house is still standing. Great news.
No idea if there is some damage or not, and what kind of damage. May be some time before we can get in there and see it. Just totally unknown.
But the crooks and carpetbaggers are already on the prowl. I have gotten 2 calls from the pricks trying to scam me already.

We're in Centennial and had a nice trip up there last spring. Glad your house is ok!!

Yeah after not burning for 100 years it was, sadly, due.

Have you heard if The Stanley Hotel made it?

Last I heard the Stanley Hotel is ok. The weather hit in time to save Estes Park as far as I know. Grand Lake Lodge was also saved. Now with the freezing temps that set in with this weather system, broken pipe are going to be the next problem. It's -2 right now in Grand Lake. Summer houses were not winterized yet, and with no heat, the full time houses will be freezing. Major damage can happen when the water gets turned back on. The Grand County Sheriff has compiled a team of volunteer contractors to head into the area and turn water off at each house that is still standing. But broken pipes will still happen as the pipes won't always be empty. The water lines inside ice makers, dishwashers, washing machines etc will freeze and break. P-traps will freeze and break. It's a major undertaking to replace the trap in a shower, or under a toilet. Faucets will break. Drywall will get ruined and need to be replaced.
The list goes on and on. One of the water main culverts in the road opened up. I guess it got hot enough, even under ground to melt. So not a major trench in the road making it unpassable. Trees are down as well as power lines and power poles. I guess it will be a while before we can get in there.
