Jeep Gladiator Owner Claims Dealer Voided Warranty After He Drove Through Mud

Not 4Runner but similar context. Could this scenario happen with a 4Runner under warranty?

The owner claimed the mud was 1ft deep. Let's pretend that's true. How fast did he hit the mud? How long did he spin the tires? Did he turn the front wheels side to side which flung the mud in every direction? Was he spinning the wheels at high rpm or low rpm? Jeep typically designs the engines with alternators on top to avoid this scenario. Not sure which vehicle could survive the Jeep owners driving.

There are too many variables for the dealer to "prove" that this one time he went wheeling caused all these issues with his Jeep, which is most likely a lemon. My guess is he buried it way more than a foot of mud and jacked it up, but with Jeeps history of electrical issues he probably has a case for Lemon Law as well. To me it seems like Jeep is trying to dodge that and use this one case of offroading as a scapegoat.

1 foot of water and mud is enough to get into the breather tubes and also bugger up the undercarriage electrical connections if you go through it fast enough or miscalculate that it's deeper.

But but but but but...
(I'd hate to see what they say about driving in the rain at speed, with proper tires of course)

1 foot of water/mud is plenty deep.

And people grossly underestimate how deep a puddle or a mud bog is.

I think if I had run my vehicle through a foot of mud I would have to take some responsibility for it. On the other hand, in their commercials they show Jeeps running through all kinds of stuff. Seems like I remember one commercial where they show people running the Jeep along the shoreline of the ocean or some other body of water. What about water and wet sand getting up in the engine?

There's a video in the article with the guy hitting the puddle at speed. He's not fording a river/creek. He's hauling ass and throwing mud and water everywhere.
This isn't a warranty issue. It's a dumbass with an expensive toy that he broke issue.
You can say that jeeps are built to go anywhere but they are not meant to go anywhere fast. Buy an atv if that's what you want to do.

Most people make a choice to go play in mud.

I took my first truck mudding once… over 10 years ago, and that mud is still signs of mud in hard to reach areas. It’s literally the worst thing I ever did to that truck, and I’ll never intentionally do it again.

They should not have voided her warranty.

Most warranties include exclusions for "abuse," which is intentionally broad language. This is also included as a cause for restricting the warranty as what happened here. I am sure there is an argument to determine what constitutes abuse, but to the average person driving through a foot of mud probably seems like improper usage.
