Verizon GSM or ATT

I just got an interesting letter in the mail where Verizon wants us to use their Unlimited plan cell phone service and will give us a big discount plus credit since Ill bring my iPhones with me. We already have them as an internet provider (FIOS). Verizon used to be CDMA but they said they are going/have gone to GSM.

"Mobile+Home Reward" is what they are calling it.

How does Verizon GSM service (4G) compare to ATT?

How is the coverage and service?

Thanks in advance.

I've had no issues with my AT&T.

LTE is great for both Verizon and AT&T. In areas without LTE coverage, however, is where the failback legacy technologies show their differences.

Verizon “3G” (EV-DO) cannot do simultaneous voice and data. Some early LTE phones couldn’t even do that, because they did not support VoLTE.

To this day, Verizon phones only do voice and data by virtue of VoLTE.

AT&T has been able to do voice/data since 3G. They have also been very good at providing a steady drip of faster speeds in the interim while the next generation of radio was still being developed (example HSPA+ and “5GE”).

I’m on ATT. I think it mostly comes down to your location. Both companies have good coverage in my area but, at our office, Verizon only works if you are outside of the building. Think about where you use your phone the most and make sure you have coverage there.

One thing I have noticed in the last couple of years is that ATT is getting better on coverage. Since they got the FirstNet contract, they have been putting up towers like crazy. Places that used to be dead areas now have great reception. While not everyone can get on the FirstNet service, all ATT customers benefit from the added towers.

Should ask people that live near you. Verizon CDMA network is going away very soon. Too bad. It works great in the mountains. Verizon vs AT&T is about location. Verizon is the best where I live. It's why I pay more vs competition. The worst in my area is Tmobile.

You can also get cellphone booster to assist with spotty service.

I had AT&T for a very short while, the GSM did not work at my home. The wife was required to go with AT&T by her employer in order to get reimbursed/covered phone service. We tried to use one of the online units and it didn't work for us with our internet. She had to drive to the top of a nearby hill in order to get good service after midnight in order to contact customers in the Far East. I went back to USCellular out of frustration. They have had good service for me. She also had to use my phone to call her office when we were on vacations going across Nebraska on I80 as there was no service on GSM. I know it is probably more tower location to my home but unacceptable to me.

In almost every city, I have found VZ to have a superior network. In Colorado, they do as well and I can also get signal is far more remote spots than ATT/Cricket, or TMO. I have had all those as well. Oh, I have had Sprint too, and they are the worst.

VZ has by far the best coverage that I have seen. But i live in the NE and mostly travel on the east coast.

Coverage area is important, there should be some maps that you can check with a grain of salt.

I don't know about the tech enough to say whether the decommissioning of CDMA is good or bad.

For as long as I remember, Verizon seemed to be the only thing that worked in rural areas of Eastern KY. Now, ATT works just about everywhere, too, and in some cases gives better signal. Easiest thing to try is go somewhere with a friend that has ATT or Verizon, and compare each other's signal. I've had both, have Verizon now.

Coverage maps can be helpful, but taking a firsthand look with a friend who has a different carrier is always a solid idea. I've found that comparing signals in real-life scenarios can give a better sense of what works best for your specific needs. And if you ever need more insights or comparisons, websites like Who Called Me? | UK'''s Instant Free Reverse Phone Lookup Service might offer some useful info. Cheers to finding the best coverage for you!
