They have been doing similar around Denver for a long time. Not aas dramatic, but similar. Most have two small lanes for cars where it was two large lanes for cars., and two large bike lanes. Guess the bicycles pay more road taxes!!!????

That's only the beginning....
We have that here too. Large bike lanes taken away from car traffic lanes.
The bike lanes here also have their own traffic lights in intersections.

Lots of waste cause most of the times the painted green bike lanes are empty, and I'm sure the electrical for the bike lane traffic lights at every intersection wasn't cheap to install and wire up too.

Next there will be no traffic lanes because too many bike and public transportation lanes taking up the roadway. Don't forget those islands with green plants in them for green beautification purposes at the expense of traffic lanes.

Yup their stupidity knows no bounds, make them get insurance , license, tags, city stickers and so on.

Maybe I could care about them then.

The difference between SD and DEN was that there was a ton of community meetings about the changes - people knew for well over a year. I was at some of the meetings that CouncilWoman Black held where this was a topic. She even brought in the city planners office for some.

And no, even ignoring that fact, there is no similarity in the two. A good example is Tamarac coming off of Hampden. There was plenty of room for bikes prior to the city restriping the road. There is still plenty of room for cars (2 lanes going in both directions) and bikes (with lanes on each side).

Despite how obviously large the road is, a bunch of old farts were still complaining about the changes b/c they were worried they wouldn't be able to stay in their lanes anymore - which indicates they probably shouldn't have a license anymore.

The SD thing is insanity, though. It's going to cause accidents, both car-car and car-bike. I can't understand how this made it through all the levels of bureaucracy to get approved. I wonder why they didn't interview the sitting councilman.

Guess I haven't driven that for a while. Tamarac south of Hampden has always been a mess. North there is some room. In Centennial they have carved up numerous roads for bike lanes. Clarkson between arapahoe Rd and Dry creek is a good example. I went to the meetings. City was not interested in anything anybody had to say about it. They just had their plan. The best excuse was....."It will slow traffic in congested neighborhoods" that has not happened.

I live in Centennial near Arapahoe and Quebec.
Haven't had a reason to drive down Clarkson but now I'm curious. May check it out.
Do you find Centennial govt to not listen to constituents in general? Their permit department is a F-ing mess.

Centennial isn't interested in the people who live here. Just look at the Southglenn Mall/Streets of southglenn fiasco. I really can't see much of improvement after they incorporated us into the city of Centennial a number of years ago. Just more bloated government and higher, MUCH higher taxes. Maybe someplace there was some benefit, I just haven't been able to find it.

They put in a bike lane on Easter, just west of the mall. There is a significant "S" curve in the road prior to the golf course. By the time people park on the street and the bike lane, there is barley enough room for two opposing cars to pass. Try and get in a out of you car on the street, and you have real problems. I think the speed limit is 20 mph on the curve (not sure). but since speed limits don't count for much, its a pretty dangerous spot. Had some friends who lived on the curve. Primary reason for moving was the problem of speeding traffic through there. They had a couple cars wind up in the front yard. Others put up some fences. the fences are busted out on a regular basis by cars.

Imagine if Tiger Woods drove thru there….

Simple solution, convert the golf course to a public park and use some of it for widened roads and parking - make it illegal to park on the street at the S, people can walk a block.
We should take every opportunity to convert a golf course to a public park.

What happened at Southglenn? We just moved to the city a year ago so I'm not familiar with it.
Although, my property taxes just went up by $400 so I'm pretty pissed with Arapahoe right now.

Southglenn Mall was a nice indoor mall. Getting a bit dated. It was built in early to mid 70's. Decent place to shop if you like mall shopping. But not over the top upscale like Cherry Creek. So Alberta company bought it, and tore it down. Built the streets of southglenn. They did a decent job of it. Although it has never really taken off. Their poor management has made sure the retailers don't have a chance in the market place. I think it could have real possibilities. So to make more money they want to build apartments there. The congestion is already a problem. they want to mix very expensive high end loft apartments on the north end against Arapahoe Rd, and low income high density housing on the south side against Easter. The congestion is already a major problem. There also isn't enough infrastructure to support the extra population. City doesn't care. Just more revenue is all they see. So approvals have been secured from the planning people, even though there has been lots of pushback from area residences.
