I saw a Ford Maverick on the road yesterday

I think it was my first time seeing a Maverick. I only saw it for a couple seconds, but I was surprised by how large it was. I think it's bigger than old Ford Rangers. Looking at this comparison, I think the Maverick might actually be bigger than old Rangers. Considering how gargantuan the current Ranger is and how not much smaller the Maverick is compared to it, there might be something to that idea. 2022 Ford Maverick vs Ranger and F-150 size comparison: How big is it?

This isn't the second coming of the Ranger. This is just another big dick American truck that happens to be made in Mexico. I mean, it seems okay, but it's hardly anything noteworthy other than being a front wheel drive crossover in truck clothing. Granted, it wears the truck clothing well, but it doesn't differentiate itself enough from the Ranger until you get under the hood.

I don’t have specifications and measurements, but I think American pickup trucks in general have grown significantly over that of decades past. Most full size 4x4 trucks I can’t even see over the bed rails anymore, let alone reach into the bed to get something.

I stepped into my 5th Gen T4R from an ‘02 Tacoma TRD 4x4 because I’m getting into my senior years and I just didn’t use the pickup bed like I used to and wanted the comfort and ability to carry more people comfortably. But I still wanted a body on frame SUV for durability and towing capacity.

They have grown a lot, but the Maverick I saw isn't the small truck that I was hoping for. I wanted a small truck, but they simply don't exist anymore, and the Maverick is not the thing that brings it back. So I got my 4Runner. First world problems.

Yeah, the days of the Ford Courier, Chevy LUV, period Datsun and Toyota trucks are long gone. In this country, at least.

Its small enough in person IMO.

The thing that is probably throwing you off is the rear passenger area. It actually has more room than a ranger/tacoma. If it were just a regular cab, it would probably be right in line with what you want in a "mini" truck.

Maverick also sits much lower than a ranger despite it only being 2.5" shorter so that may give it an appearance of being larger.

The first time I saw one of these I was coming up behind it at a stop light. I couldn't take my eyes off the exhaust pipe because it's placement is so odd.

I've seen several around the little town I live in. Very interesting looking trucks, but I don't hate them!
