Anyone here from Rawlins WY?

Not trying to be a creeper, just curious as we are getting ready to move there.

That's going to be a shocker for you. Desert, windy place. Have some saline for your sinuses while you adjust. Distances will deceive you. Nothing is close like you are used to. But some great areas to explore if your willing. Wy is the greatest state in the union for many reasons, you just have to appreciate them.
Do some exploring. Learn some history. Pretty amazing place if you look, but not easy to learn to love. It's a harsh place, but that's part of the alure. Your not coming in the best time of the year to acclimate. Good luck with your move. I'm mostly jealous, but not totally. Wyoming is my first choice of a place to settle, since Kolorado has been kalifornicated. I would prefer a few other places in Wyoming though.

Let me know how it goes, I'm looking to (hopefully) move to Cody as soon as I can. But trying to find work before the move is extremely tough... unless you're in oil or coal of course. Did you secure a job beforehand or just crossing bridges as they come?

We lived in Cody for a while. still own a house there on Greybull hill. Looks out over Heart mountain. I'd move back if I could. Great town in a great state. Not always easy living though. Guess maybe that's why its so special. Worth the extra effort to live there.

Well I work remote as a database developer so I can work anywhere. However, I am really hoping after we move that I could find work supporting a local company. Are you specifically set on Cody?

We were only in Cody for a little bit during our original trip. How is the town?
Are you renting that house out or is it setting? Our plans for Rawlins fell through so now we are back on the hunt. Though it sounds really nice so I probably couldn't afford it... Haha!

It's long term renters. Been there for a long time. Cody can be a bit uppity. There is some money in Cody compared to some surrounding towns, and therefore you get the jealous dissenters. Small towns can be hard to get accepted in. Cody is a bit more welcoming than some. Probably because of so much tourism. But expect the old guard to be very influential. But once you get involved its a great community. They get tired of the people who come with some rose colored glasses. the people who bought into some sort of hollywood dream BS and come trying to change things to what they had to escape from.
Then find out its hard to live there, climate and all, and then leave after screwing things up for the locals. Same story in many places. Make sure you apply some reality to your fantasy before you go someplace else. The locals may not appreciate you driving up the prices and voting the way that destroyed where you came from. Wy is currently the greatest state if you could get rid of Jackson.

More or less, from what I've heard Park and Teton county has some of the best/most off-roading and Cody is certainly one of the best areas for firearms. Being a "big" city (big for them at least) it seems like a smart choice since work and housing can get pretty damn scarce in the smaller towns. The scenery is still nice, still got some trees and all - that's really all that's driving me there. However the snow is pretty damn daunting if I say so... especially coming from an area where I maybe see 6in total every year
Very unfortunate to hear your plan fell through! Maybe one day, eh?

What, you're not a fan of the $20,000/month rent for a 3 bedroom on 5 acres?

Oh don't worry mean, I am picking up what you're putting down. I'm aware of that "crowd" running from their own mess and I'm not with them. I'm hoping to get to WY and help the locals keep things from changing, i.e. join them if that makes sense.
