big differences between my opinion and that of other parents.

it's a little off-topic for this forum, but still. Anyway, I put parental controls on my 11-year-old son's phone. It is important for me to know what he is looking for and what he can find on the Internet, so I prohibited access to any sites and services that may contain extreme content for the child. Some adults say that parental control is evil. I do not understand them, what do you think - parental control - evil or not?

I think people have more of an issue with spying or overly tracking children. Nothing wrong with giving kids tools limited/appropriate for them individually. But you better know your kid, what may be inappropriate for some may not be for others. Don't underestimate kids intelligence, or should I say ingenuity because it will backfire if you choose to overly spy/control/limit.

I believe in "Trust but verify" and "If you don't ask you don't get". Open communication and mutual respect with kids at any age is more important than control. Help kids make good decisions, don't completely control/limit them.

My son could have purchased grand theft auto without me knowing, but his respect for me (GTA was also not rated for his age) he asked for permission rather than loose my trust and mutual respect if he didn't (or an ass whooping).

Both my kids have now since moved out in there early 20's and bought there own houses before hitting 30. Now I am a Grandpa with a new life to help build a foundation for that makes good decisions.

As a parent it is your responsibility to protect your child. We live in a very dangerous world and there are child predators roaming the internet looking for an opportunity to lure a child into a dangerous situation. We hear about it all the time on the news. Your child may not appreciate what you are trying to do for him now, but stand firm, he will appreciate it later when he understands,

So no, not SPAM. Off topic, maybe, trolling at best.

regardless of whether the OP is a spam post or not. this post above summarizes raising children in the age of the internet, snap chat, instagram and all that other crap. everyone thinks their child won't get tricked or lured by some predator, yet it continues to happen. kids can be smart, but they don't have life experience, many of them have never been in a dangerous situation, they simply don't understand the evil that is out there and what that evil is capable of doing. when you see it first hand it may change your viewpoint. it's your job as a parent to determine what you feel is best and safe for your kids, even though 'they know better'. educate and explain as best you can and weigh the risks

Perhaps I have low authority with my child, or I missed the point where I was supposed to create a thread of trust between us, but he does not listen to me if I forbid him to look at certain material on the Internet or to play games that are not appropriate for his age. Because of this, I had to put parental controls in place to keep him away from content that could damage or corrupt his psyche.

I think you're right. When I was a kid I didn't understand some actions and prohibitions from my parents either, but it was more than ten years after that, and only after 10-12 years I understood why they forbade me some things.

Your question was a good one for about any forum, whether your a bot or not.
Those who don't want to read/respond don't have to.

I've got two daughters. One responsible, like her mother, one like me, more right brain.
I had to install Canopy on the latter older daughters phone, It's a control app that monitors all apps and shuts down her computer and phone at a certain hour.

It's needed in these times in which we live and any parent who doesn't "parent" in a biblical worldview sense is missing the definition of the word and isn't responsible.

We homeschool. My Kids aren't experimentally indoctrinated clones, droning around the halls of boredom or shuffled into confined spaces that lunatic activists occupy, hell-bent on adding one more confused robot to the ranks.

All I can say is your parenting is correct, right and genuine. Don't let anyone tell you differently!

Case and point: My high school friend was let loose as a teen, drank, drugs, had no supervision, parents gave up. He has 11 felonies that ended up with him institutionalized in prison and still living at home at 56.

My parents beat my @ss and disciplined me and gave a $hit. I did my "time" in the military.

It's a cruel world. Love your kids as a parent should, don't be a friend or buddy. Be a PARENT!

Seriously. This is the kind of thread that is actually important and no one else has a single opinion on it?

Great.

That's the problem. Cut and dry.

This is certainly a tough one. I've had lots of conversations with my kids about watching out for malicious people. As for the content they watch, I tried restricting as much as possible. I've got a solid network and I run an RPi with PiHole and I zap a lot of garbage coming in. But it's very difficult to restrict conversations between them and their friends on platforms like Discord. They will be experiencing a lot of this when they're outside of your home and I rather be in the know of what's happening and have them share with me vs being shut out completely - I want to be on good terms with them. They will make their own decisions and they will base these decisions on respect and trust that parents give them or don't. Their curiosity I think is closely associated.
