New hardware for the license plate mount. The old screws were extremely rusty and I was concerned about stripping them out. The little details matter. And it’s funny, as I’ve begun to embark on this new journey with the Accord, I’ve really truly realized how much work I’ve done to the 4Runner over the past almost 11 years. It’s pretty wild to think. So this is only the beginning.

Thanks brother. I haven’t even gone through an entire tank of gas yet. I’ve only been driving it since Sunday. To and from work and around town. It’s doing great. I’m super stoked to have a new project.

Everything on this 07 is stock; engine, trans, fuel pump, you name it. It’s had minor suspension work done to it recently like control arms and ball joints and such, but nothing too in-depth. So that’s why I’m so excited to begin. I wanna keep it simple and practicable, so we’ll see where this build goes.

Accomplished quite a bit today. The first order of business was to replace the hood struts. My parents bought these for me a few months back and have been in the closet waiting for installation. They’re the Strongarm brand which is the same brand of struts I have on the rear hatch of the 4Runner.

After installation the hood popped right up and open. Nice and smooth. It still had the original struts on it and they were completely worn out. Wouldn’t even hold the hood open. Problem solved!

My buddy has a brake fluid gauge/tool/reader thing. Evidently the fluid is in bad shape and has 4% or more water/condensation in it. So, that’s gotta get done asap.

Also unphotographed was the ATF. The fluid was pretty dark but not burnt or black. That’s also at the top of the priority list.

Since the check engine light was on it was necessary to pull the codes. They read as shown below. I’ll have to do some research on them this week to find out what all I need to do to get them fixed. I ended up erasing the codes and drove around for about 30 minutes in total and the codes ended up coming back on. So clearly they are relevant and pressing.

I’m a little embarrassed to say, but this is what the cabin air filter looked like. I don’t know when the last time it was changed but clearly it was a while ago. A trip to AutoZone fixed that, as I was able to get an STP cabin air filter for $21.19 after tax. The replacement filter was just a standard cabin air filter, not one of the charcoal ones. That’s what I intend to use the next time I change it.

Last but not least, I switched the map lights, dome light and side door marker lights all to LEDs. I went with the Sylvania brand LED bulbs as I have had good results with them in the 4Runner. Next up on the list to complete are the license plate lights, the reverse lights and the trunk light. I’m definitely pretty happy with the way that these turned out. In total for these LED bulbs I spent $36.46 from Walmart.

I recently was given an 03 Accord V6 with about 70K on it from a grandparent. I have a 15 year old. It will be his car. I've been dragging my feet on it but it needs some catch up on maintenance. I started with a drain and fill on the trans fluid. Did that twice and will do it once more. And changed the trans filter. The big one since this is a V6 is the timing belt/tensioner.

Sounds like you’re in a very fortunate position to do that for your kid. I know he/she will be so thankful when you give the car to them. That’s a good start on maintenance though, at least you’ll be able to wrench on it with your kid. Teach some valuable life skills and such. Happy to hear it. I hope I can do the same for mine when they get to be that age.

Those older Hondas, if well maintained, will last forever. They rarely have rust issues...even in the rust belt...and the engine/transmission combos were very durable.

I don't think I would trust a newer Honda to last forever but the mid-90s to mid-00s was Honda's golden age.

Enjoy your Accord. They are comfy cars with plenty of power considering their weight.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it. I've driven it a bit. It's nice with the V6.

I found a board in the garage to prop up the hood. Works nicely

Sounds like hood struts are on the to-do list of maintenance for you soon. Thankfully they’re cheap and affordable. The V6 is nice for sure and definitely has pickup compared to my 4Runner.
