Hello, any 4R members living in the area and have any recommendations on where to look for homes? I have family and friends in both east and west valleys. Looking for new/newer home with contemporary kitchen, safe area, smaller house 3 br 2 bath. Thanks!

I lived in Yuma for nearly 30 years. I can't help you with you home search, I fear, but if you haven't lived in the desert before, be ready for two things: a heck of a A/C bill, and staying hydrated.

APS rates are awfully high. When I lived in Yuma, my A/C bill averaged more than $200.00 per month. Be ready!

Stay hydrated is the second. If you take your truck out into the desert 4 wheeling, carry a 5 gallon container of water for every 2 people. You'll go through at least a gallon per person, per day. If there's a problem, and you wind up stuck out there, you'll go through that gallon or more. Be ready.
Carrying a Gatorade type fluid is a real good idea, too, but the water is a bare minimum.
Any time you go, plan where you want to go boony-hopping, and let someone who's NOT going know. If you don't come back on time, make sure they don't hesitate to call the Search and Rescue. The desert is hard on trucks, and even moreso on people. Don't bet on having cell service, either. Murphy's Law being what it is, you won't.
If your truck breaks down, unless you're within visual distance of a major highway, don't leave it. Search parties, looking down from above, like in a helicopter, can see your truck a whole lot easier than they can see you. And that's where your water supply is. In the desert, water is life, even in winter.
Stay out of dry washes too. There can be a storm in the mountains you don't even know about, and a flash flood can get you before you know it. Dry washes are death traps. They have loose sand in them too, that will grab your truck and not let it go. If you get stuck, go to the side and climb out. Stay near your truck, but get out of the wash. Or wadi, as they're called.

Sorry I wasn't more help with you main trouble. I hated Yuma from the first day I got stationed there. I couldn't even help you with information about Yuma, any more. I wish you all the best.
