Steep hill climb (LR3 video)

Can our 4Runners do the hill climb that the LR3 does at the end of this video? What do you think?

I cant say for sure but I think its right in our range. I think the runner is by far the best truck i have ever owned. Ive owned quite a few. Nothing compared.

I was thinking that we could pull it off, but damn, that's seriously steep. The front end of the Land Rover looked awfully light, if you know what I mean!

In terms of power? Sure
Traction? Sure, it's a rock

Only question is the maximum incline angle. The LR3 may or may not have a higher incline angle than the 4runner, but I don't believe this picture. The overseas Prado's incline angle is 42 degress. That's at least 50 fifty in the pic. A slight exaggeration, I believe.

The camera's angle (intentionally/unintionally) made the hill steeper than in real life. Frames 2:00-2:05 shows that the hill is not as steep as frames 2:08-2:40

Guys, it is impossible to determine the angle from the video. I agree that it looks steeper from different camera angles, but look at the front end of the LR3. It is obviously VERY steep, judging by the way the front end is lifting and the back end is squatting.

I don't doubt that we have enough power and traction (with the proper tires), but I just wonder how steep of an angle our 4Runners can handle.

You're right. I broke out my protractor (seriously!) and held it up to my monitor. It appears that the angle is 50 degrees.

I was noticing in the vidieo before the really big hill that the trees were in the "right" position. I had the same thoughts as the rest of you.

And another. Apparently, this place is somewhere in South Africa, and it's popular in the same way Lion's Back was so popular in Moab.

There are a lot of variables but in terms of official numbers, the 42 degrees from the Prado would seem to be the best estimate. After seeing that second video, I have some doubts about having enough traction now. Not even sure about the power part if traction control got too involved.

Yeah, the LR3 driver made it seem pretty easy. Even so, I don't think our 4Runners would lack the power needed to make it. The torque multiplication in 4wd low is awesome and should give us more than enough power.

This would be a case where I think we would want the traction control completely turned off, however, I don't think that is possible in our vehicles.

Looks like he is running BFG AT's from the beginning shot of the vid. ( so good tires)

That would be to steep for me , I'd crap my pants ....lol.

As far as power goes , and traction I would say yes. Our diff would have to be locked so the power would get to the wheels , and let Atrac do its thing.

Does anyone know if that model has front and rear lockers ? I would think on a rock like that Atrac would be a better performer. There would have to be some give or I think you would snap an axle .

It would be interesting to see if it could do it.
