Temporary Health Insurance

What are some options on health insurance when you are between jobs? After I quit my current job, I'll have 2 weeks before I start the next one. Since I'm going to a competitive company, my termination will be immediate. I won't have the option of "going on leave" before my last day.

Any ideas or suggestions on what I could do for some temporary coverage? I'm pretty active and so "no insurance" isn't an option I'm willing to consider. One of the reasons I wanted these two weeks is because I already had activities planned. So "doing nothing" isn't an option either...

Thanks guys.

Are you not eligible for coverage under COBRA? If not, sometimes the current group coverage will last thru the end of the current month. I am not familiar with TX but there should be some kind of Individual coverage available in your state. Usually it is extremely expensive compared to group coverage but to fill the "gap between" jobs, I would suggest a very high deductible and postpone any healthcare services until the new group coverage is effective. The highest available deductible will provide you with catastrophic coverage (which is what insurance is suppose to be) at a lower cost.

If you currently have insurance from your employer, I believe they have to offer you the opportunity to purchase the same insurance coverage (for 13 months in Va) directly from the insurance company. I'm still getting mine and I left in March. The insurance policy usually doesn't lapse until the end of the month anyway.
