Black Friday 2009
I sometimes like shopping on the day after Thanksgiving for specails. My birthday is around that time and I try and get a nice tool from Home Depot or Lowes.
This year the ads seem to be fewer deals, but maybe that is just me.

I have thought of getting a Blu Ray player, I have heard that it would go as low as $79, well I haven't seen that. I am just not seeing any great deals yet.
Let us know what you are looking for and what good deals you think are out there. I have thought of getting a flat screen monitor and the Staples ad looked like there was a decent deal there. As far as tools, nothing jumped out at me, yet.

Good deals on computer equipment and electronic gear can be found at newegg.com. I would also give amazon.com a try.

IMO you should wait until the post Christmas sales, after what I think will be an abysmal season retail wise there should be some screaming deals even moreso than last year. I make it a point to stay home on Black Friday, cant stand crowds.

Last year my wife and I were up all night playing some X-Box 360 when she mentioned that the stores were going to be opening soon. We decided to head out and see what the big deal was about getting to the stores at 0500. The line was long, but it didn't take long before we were in the store. Initially it wasn't all that bad, but as more and more people crammed into the store my frustration grew at an exponential rate. At one point a little silver haired grandma tried to walk through me to get to the next big thing on sale. It was at that point that I vowed to never again venture out on black Friday. I'm more than happy to pay more for an item than subject myself to the hell that is black Friday.

I can't deal with the crowds. 95% of the time when there is a deal, people just get uncivilized and behave worst than cavemen.
Usually for me, the deals I'm looking for are still around at 9-10am, typically DVDs for a few bucks. But I'll start to look for Blu-rays this time around.
The $300 dollar laptop or flat screen TV are usually behind the sweet spot of the technology curve. It's crazy how long the lines can get Thanksgiving night. If each store only has 20 $300 laptop or TV, it's pointless to be in line if you're #35. Oh wells, that's just me not trying to get the most uber deal out there at the expense of sleep and frustration. Speaking of which, it should be a lot easier this year, since Circuit City is gone, that's one fewer line to stand in.
I'll be on the lookout for online deals. Most of the time no tax and free shipping.

Yes, it can be rough, but I try and go to Home Depot or Lowes around 10 AM or so and they still have the deals. Problem I am seeing is that there are less deals. Is it just me or what?
Also, I buy on-line every November from Deep Discount DVD and get a few of the latest movies. (They used have 25% off of their low prices.) Well, this is the first year I can remember that they stopped that. They did a different deal, 40% off of list and it is NOT nearly as good. It just seems like retail stores and on-line stores are not giving as much deals as they used to.
Also, I used to buy CD's from BMG (a on-line music store). Well, they closed this year and put yourmusic.com out instead. All CD's now $6.99. Their music is now very limited and the price is higher that I used to pay.
So, the question is, where are all the neat deals???

If you're planning on buying anything online, especially techy stuff, check out www.dealnews.com.
A lot of times, they'll also cover brick & mortar sales and deals you can get.

Walmart ad is out and they have a blue ray player for $78. Consumer Reports said that model is their "best buy". A friend of mine who is going to WalMart said they would pick it up, so I may get it. I still plan on using DVD's, but if a Blu Ray is close to the same price, I will get those. Spending $30 for a movie is not a great deal for me, but $12.99 then I will get one.

A consumer reporter, Clark Howard said that stores have ordered less stuff so if you see a deal, go ahead and get it.

Check out Amazon. Usually you can get most titles for about $20, some as little as $13 or lower. Last week, they had a deal for UP! ($20) with several other Disney/Pixar titles and $10 off, making two Blu-rays for $30 in that deal/combo. The exception was Bolt, that was $27 by itself.
I try to get movies that have the visual appeal making it BR worthy or at least an action flick with a nice audio track (7.1-ch audio, DTS-MA, Dobly T-HD, etc). I use this website to determine if I should pay more a particular title on BR or just stick with DVD.

Black Friday
I will be on the road for 12+ hours on 'Black Friday' because I am a truck driver and must work that day. What sucks is that I'll be all over Northern Virginia - which has some of the worst traffic anywhere. (I'll be on the road Wednesday as well, and know that I-95 will be a clusterf*ck all day long.)
If I were off work that day, I would stock up on frozen pizzas, DVDs from Blockbuster and a cold six-pack of my favorite golden beverage. The LAST place I would want to be is near any shopping center.
P.S. That being said, I suppose I am still THANKFUL that I have a job in this crappy economy.

I agree man... I think, in general, people aren't offering as good of deals as they should be. I have a feeling that retailers are not dropping prices because it hurts their bottom line even more. If they sell stuff too cheaply they will potentially lose money and there is no guarantee they will sell any more units at 10 dollars less. I, personally, won't buy or not buy based on 10 dollars. I also think they have realized that making an item 10 dollars cheaper doesn't matter when you don't have the 100 to buy it for in the first place. Why try to liquidate your inventory when you can just file for bankruptcy, lay off half your workforce, or have the bank of USA bail you out? GM could have stayed afloat if they had cut their car prices in half...
