I just picked up a 2008 RAV4 with 100,000 miles in very good shape, other than the struts and shocks. Replacing the struts was easier than the shocks. It is usually the other way round. We now have 5 toytota products in the stable: 3 4runners and 2 RAV4's.

We have a Honda Civic too. The 4Runner doesn't get the best mileage and is our "adventure car" and so having a more economical city car is how we view it. Maybe a BEV or PHEV in the future to save even more gas.

I don't know. I haven't gotten to experience the newer generation. The RAV4 lost the full sized spare in 2014? I believe. I'm a full-sized spare kinda person.

Awesome, I also have a 3rd gen 4Runner and a 3rd gen RAV4. I'm actually going to tackle the shocks and struts soon on my RAV4; can I ask what made the shocks so much more difficult on yours? I've been worried about removing the high torque strut bolts, and the shocks didn't look so bad to do, but I certainly could be missing something. Thanks!

The shock nut access on top is a real pain to get to. You have to use an open end 17mm on the one side to slide it off because you don't have enough room to remove the wrench when the bolt/nut backs out. You also have to remove the bottom shock bracket from the knuckle(2 bolts up, underneath) to get the lower bolt out of the shock. I reversed the bolt when I reinstalled it so I don't have to remove the whole bracket. For the front struts, I bought the struts with the spring already attached. I don't like messing with spring compressors because of a previous experience.

My friends are getting a Tesla and currently have two older Mercedes GL450s. I'll get one of those soon. It will be very helpful with the third row and auto tailgate for my wife since we have a toddler. It also gives us quite a bit a more room for gear than the 4Runner.

What else do you drive?

‘95 Nissan 240SX - I’ve had it since 2014, probably my 7th or 8th S-Chassis at this point. Plan on keeping it unless someone offers good money for it, it may happen with this market. OEM+ build. Original paint, original interior aside from S15 seats and a few tweaks to mount gauges. Everything else has been replaced or upgraded. Rebuilt SR20, forged internals, wheels, suspension, brakes, every bushing replaced, exhaust, one piece DS. Hoping to locate some OEM aero to complete the look.
