Smoke? Thinking of quitting?

I took a prescriptoin of Chantix from my dentist about 4 months ago. I started to take the meds only half serious about quitting smoking. At the time, I smoked like a pack a day or so.

On this medication you can continue to smoke, just over time you crave the nicotine less because the medication blocks the nicotine receptors.

Well now I am smoke free and glad to get away from those f'ing things.

The side effects I experienced was an occosional temper flare and some crazy dreams. As far as temper, it didn't make me madder than I usually did, I just got mad faster. Didn't happen often. As far as the dreams, I didn't mind those either, I usually don't remember my dreams, but it was awesome having the dreams to be honest.

It's covered by most insurance, but if it isn't, really who cares, you'll save thousands in buying cigarettes.

What a *****! Is that okay to say here, especially when you're taking about yourself. Do ya ever go back and reread your posts? That came out a little harsh and that wasn't my intention.
Sorry if I offended you. Habits are hard to break. I applaud you for quitting and sharing how you did it. Keep at it!

Edit: I guess it's not ok, since it ***** out

Congrats on quitting! As someone who is easily addicted to things (damn 4runner), I can commend you on your success.

And to the girl, honesty is a virtue and free speech is a right. So dont be afraid to say what you think.

For those still trying to quit, if one doesn't work try the other. I've had friends use Chantrix successfully, but Wellbutrin worked like a charm for me. Everybody is different, but don't stop trying to quit the filthy weed!

Congrats !! I did the same almost 2 years ago and I've had no slips at all. I tried a total of 3 times with this being the 3rd . I don't see me ever going back at this point , its WAY to expensive , people who smoke , STINK , STINK STINK and worse of all , sometimes don't even know it . It's just nasty and gross and that's the end of it for me .
Keep up the good work and treat yourself well . The cool **** I've bought with the money I've saved was worth it alone . Paid for a new fishing boat and trailer for me , so far

agreed. i cold turkeyd it 2 weeks ago today. and so far i have saved about $100. its wild. i dont care for the nicotine, so i dont use patchs or pills.
its the motion, and the taste that i miss. i first quit smoking in the 4runner a few months ago and that was the hardest. cause everytime i put the keys in the ignition i would light up. so after that it got easier. alot of sunflower seeds while i drive haha.

I ran out of smokes last night and said 'I aint buyin' no stinkin' cigs tomorrow!'. Well it's 3:10 and I'm dying for a smoke! Didnt stop this morning and haven't bummed one either, haven't had one all day. I'm starting to sound all froggy and stuff all the time now too. I have to quit this non-sense. I even have the Chantix prescription on my desk from my doctor, just never made the commitment.

Congrats to the op for a tough job well done

Here's the thing, once you've hit that two or three week mark, you probably should bum a smoke. It's gonna taste like ****, and you'll get slightly ill, and then it's all downhill.

That was my experience, anyway. But I was still on the Wellbutrin, so it's not too late to talk to your doc and give that a shot too. Whatever makes it easier to quite, man. My mouth fix was toothpicks and teriyaki sticks.

Hey thanks everyone. I just wanted to put out there that there is somethng that can help.

I've tried quitting cold turkey numerous times, but didn't last long. Either coffee, beer, or some other trigger ended up getting me to light up. Don't cold turkey yourself, that is torture, this med will make it almost effortless.

Anyone thinking of quitting should try this med. I said thinking, not trying. As I posted earlier, I figured I would try it, I wasn't 100 percent dedicated to quitting at the moment.

At first you smoke normally, and then about the time you quit, you light a smoke with intentions of smoking it, and you only drag on it twice, and toss the cigarette away. Before you know it, you don't crave them.

I won't lie, once in awhile I crave one, but I wait it out, and end up forgetting about it in 5 minutes.

I went cold turkey almost four months ago. I made a promise to myself I would never smoke again, and now it's not even about cigarettes. I hardly think about them, but when I do, I just think--am I so pathetic that I can't even keep my simple word to myself? It's a total game and I don't like to lose.

quitting is harder than what people think it is i think i cold turkey it 5-6 times never lasted longer than 2 days, its not 100% nicotine either its just the motion like trev said, always smoke when in the truck i dont even smoke at home or outside, its weird.
