White Rock Mountain Campground

In a couple of weeks I think I am going camping hear. does anyone know of any good offroad trails around this area? I am mainly going so that I can explore the Ozarks and do some light wheeling. Is there a better campground in this area that might be better to check out?

Im looking at White Rock Mountain campground. Are there any trails that are suggested to run in that area? What are the rules for camping in the Ozark National forest? can you camp anywhere you find a good spot?

The White Rock campground is pretty basic, but the views up there are insane. There are a ton of dirt roads up there, and there are some pretty technical trails as well. One thing to be careful of is if the road/trail is open. Look them up in the MVUM, and enjoy!

Thanks. I just got back from camping there Sunday afternoon. I used some of the maps that were provided by the US forest service. I wasn't to happy with those maps. They were frequently wrong. Many trails that were marked as open on their site were marked closed on the trailhead. I did like the campground and I found a few enjoyable trails.

Sweet! Hopefully you did not get stuck having TOO many water crossings. I moved out here about a year ago from the Northwest, and was shocked with how many creeks and rivers I had to cross. I love it now, but it was a little intimidating the first time or five.

I had only one. The creek was so low that my tires barely got wet.

White Rock Mountain Campground

I just wanted to give white rock mountain a short review. My brother and I stayed there for 2 nights and we brought our 2 german shepherds. To start this campground is located in the Ozarks off of Forest gravel roads. There are two popular way to get there. The most common way is from shores lake. That route is currently under construction. The road is the smoother way up and it has fresh gravel but beware it is very slick and you need to go slow up it. The other route is from Mountainburg. Coming up this way the road is a rough gravel/dirt road. It is a much faster road to drive but cars and will struggle with this route.

When we got there we stayed at campsite 9. This campsite is the most private site at the campground. All of the other sites are right next to one another. At campsite 9 you get your own private loop. One of the downsides is that it does not have a tent pad like the other sites. The ground is very rocky so I would recommend to taking a tarp for under your tent. There are a lot of the walking stick bugs around the camp ground. They seem to be worst at night and while under trees.

I dont know about the other sites but campsite 9 had its own access trail to the rim trail that goes around the mountain. The views are great!

Here is a couple pictures from the South Overlook. It can be accessed from the rim trail or the Day use area.

Overall my experience there was positive. The staff was friendly the views were great, there is access to running water, and the campsite it in the middle of nowhere (not off of a major tourist route or highway.) If I had to rate them I would give 4.25/5. Hope this helps anyone who is looking at camping here.
