Greetings from Hillsboro. I'm running a stock '08 Sport, but hoping to start building it up to run 33s in the not too distant future. I have dreams of someday doing an long overland trip through NV, ID, and eastern OR. So far, my experience is limited to some rough FS roads and tame two track. I have so much to learn.
Help me make my dreams come true.

Sandlake near Tillamook is a simple beach drive with some small dunes. Not as big as the dunes near Florence but still a fun trip. We may go again in late September or October on a week day to avoid the weekend mess.

I haven't tried sand before. Can you do that in a stock 4R with LT tires? I always figured that was just asking to get stuck. Yeah....I'm that ignorant about 4x4 right now. Anything more than a rough dirt road is new to me. Do you need extra equipment/permits for the dunes?

Before I added my AT tires, my stock T4 with OEM tires did fine in soft sand. Sand is good, no pinstripes, no trees and it's fun to drive near the surf.
I air down to 15 psi and as soon as you feel the T4 digging in, get off the gas. There are a lot of good sand driving videos on YouTube.
Equipment - Tire deflators, compressor to air up, dune flag and in Oregon an ATV pass. A snatch strap and shackles are good if someone needs to give you a pull.
You will be surprised on how well 4WD and airing down works in the sand.
If we make a trip to Sandlake I'll let you know. I have a CO2 tank, deflators and snatch strap. It's best to go with another vehicle in case you get really stuck, but I have been in some very deep soft stuff with no problems.

Hi Mike,
Mike here! Yes, I'm in the Medford area too. Is everyone in Jackson County with a 4Runner names Mike? IDK, it could be a trend.
I have a 2015 super "Limited". I won't lie, I really disliked it at first. Just so ugly compared to my wife's 3rd gen.
It got better once I ditched the 20" wheels and got some real tires on it.
We've also got big plans for it and will be doing extensive work this spring/summer (or as soon as my coilovers show up. How does 8 months and counting sound )?
Good to meet you Mike!
Cheers,
Mike

I just joined as well. Not sure if this is the latest PNW forum. I have done a few Google searches and haven't seen an updated group.
