Tire time

So it's that kinda time with my 4Runner I need to get new Tires. I have a 14 Trail with the stock 17 Rims. Going to be doing road trips and light off-roading in it. Wanted to see what kind of tires y'all have and how do you like them. Also possibly thinking about getting new rims as well so any recommendations would greatly appreciated.

Already read dozens of pages of input on tires and you don't have any specific questions about any particular model or size of tire?

Im new here and I have seen that this can be a tough crowd at times.....but I understand where a lot of it comes from. I just got my first 4Runner about a week ago, but I was looking for wheels and tires way before that. I decided to go with stock 17" Trail wheels (I have a 2016 SR5). Ive put aftermarket wheels on every vehicle ive owned in my life. Just decided to stick with a stock wheel for now, plus I really like the look of them.

On the tires, for me it was a question of weight and comfort while still being aggressive enough to handle decent offroading/trails. Coming from a Powerstroke diesel truck (still have it), I was already worried about the huge lack of power in the 4Runner that I have been used to in the diesel. I knew that a big 285 or 295 E load range Toyo MT was going to weigh this little V6 down a lot. Long story short, I ended up ordering a set of Duratracs in a C load class in 255/75/17. Ive seen many pics on here of lifted 4Runners with this tire and they looked just as good as any 275/70 combo. Plus this tire only weighs 40 pounds each. The very popular BFG KO2 that lots of people have in 275/70 is another 15 pounds heavier per tire and in a E load range.

As a side note, let me say that going from a C load to a E load makes a huge difference in ride comfort (especially on a light weight vehicle). Anyone who says it doesn't is blowing smoke up your backside. I can say this from 12 years of experience riding around on 35" and 37" Toyo MT's.

Hope you find the right wheel and tire for your needs.
