I had replaced my tranny on my Cherokee at 160 k miles. It cost me $ 2,200. So ever since then I wanted to do something that would take the load off the drive-train when not is use (95% of the day). So I use the e-brake every time now hoping that it should help in some way.

So what I do not is to engage the Emergency break before letting of the break pedal and then putting it in park. This took care of the problem.
I became sensitive to hearing this noise because my wife drives a

Only use it on inclines that are steep enough to put load on the tranny but never on flat ground since sometimes on older yotas the e brake cables can freeze up.

Don't let the name fool you. That baby's not just for when you're parked! I use mine to slide out the backend in the snow.

If you practice you can make a pretty good transition from brake sliding into the corner and power steering out of the corner.

I've always used it. Even though in the T4R that I have now, it doesn't work... :/

Always use it when parked on a hill, even a slight one.

This forum has given me some food for thought, sadly never thought about the wear it could cause on the transmission. Good to know!

So I'm in the "always" camp but before reading this thread, I'd put the transmission in Park and then engage the parking brake. Now, I'm going to do it the other way around. Fun fact for the day.

On hills, sometimes when I'm not sure if it's a legit parking spot or not and want to make towing extra difficult

Always, I'm in So Cal where we have lots of hills, because I have stick shift (although I also always park in gear), and because it's there.

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.
