Having owned 2 YJs and now currently owning a 4th gen V8 4wd limited, I can definitely say I prefer both depending on the circumstance. My 2nd YJ was an 87 with brand new metallic cherry paint lifted 6.5" on 35s and had a Chevy 350 swap with an auto tranny and Ford 8.8....I absolutely LOVED it. I was a beast and I never put it in to 4wd once haha. It pulled many people out and looked great doing it too. However it was my daily at the time when I was starting college and ended up costing me many late nights under it fixing various issues. If you enjoy turning a wrench on vehicles and have a secondary vehicle with all the creature comforts and good mpg I would recommend a jeep. However I hate JKs and all cherokees....As far as 4runners go, I have owned mine for a few weeks now and it continuously impresses me with its abilities. It has a ton of power, feels like a tank in 4Lo, looks amazing, and has ALL the creature comforts I want. For daily driving with slight offroad use, I choose 4runner all day long. For high school parking lot showoffs, and general offroad abuse along with cool factor I choose Jeep. Couldn't keep a smile off of my face when driving the jeep...but I wasn't smiling when I had to fix something EVERY week.

Funny… you should ask the same question/poll on a Jeep forum.

Rubicon lose the versatility, but the look is good with top off, Bimini top,

The mods for the X are whatever you want.

4Runner is like the woman you could stay married too for a long time.

Jeeps like a trophy wife, fun while the good times last, you know it's not going to last.

Having owned both, spot on comment. Plus the trophy wife will cost you more end the end due to higher maintenance Yota or Jeep? (convince my brother!).

Had a Jeep. Want a Toyota. Getting too old for all that maintenance.

Have had 3 Jeep Wranglers and 2 Gladiators every single one had issues and they were usually repeat problems. Once outside warranty ir can get expensive.

He went really old school with a YJ. Any Toyota with coil springs would have been a better choice than that

However, a modern Jeep is simply going to be easier to modify and outperform a 4Runner offroad. The reliability is not as strong, but we're also not talking about the 80s anymore

I've had both and i'm agnostic. One of each is the best choice

At 78 I just purchased my first 4 Runner, I will say here that I did get the TRD Off Road model because I have always enjoyed the 4 wheel drive model vehicles, but really don't do much off roading anymore, if any. I have owned two Jeep Wranglers, a 2005 TJ and a 2017 Willys, both were very good Jeeps and they once again were pretty much TOYS and never saw very much off roading, I just like having a Jeep around for the sport of it. Since I don't screw with my vehicles and drive them stock as they came from the factory and put only 3000/4000 miles per year on them this could be why I never had any problems with them. All being said, I'm not going to knock Jeeps as I do understand the problems that Jeeps can have and the cost of repairs can be high, but I personally never encountered any of that, probably because of low mileage driving them. I just purchased my 4 Runner two weeks ago and I have spent the last 6 months trying to decide between the Jeep Unlimited and the 4 Runner, decided on the 4 Runner and glad I did, I really like it and it beats the Jeep in every way for me, what can I say.
